Mere Xmas gift

Miranda gave me an early Yule (or maybe late Solstice) present last
night. A nice bright red gift, just the right colour for the season. I
am going to wear it for at least a couple of weeks.

I was wrapping presents, and I went to find some tape. I crouched down
by the drawers of my bookcase. Miranda is always trying to get up on the
bookcase, but she needs me for a stepping stone, because it is so high,
and there's no other furniture nearby that she can jump from.

So Miranda jumped on my back in order to jump onto the bookcase, but
since I was crouched down on the floor, she miscalculated the distance
and came crashing down immediately. While going down she grappled for
something to break her fall.

The something was my face. I am now sporting a nice long scratch along
my left cheek, from the corner of my eye to my chin. I'm all decked out
for Christmas!

PS You wouldn't believe how much a scratch to your cheek can bleed.

Ouch! Marina, I know that had to have hurt.  I have a similar scratch
across my forearm where Barnabus jumped from the hearth to the couch
and missed. He held on as best he could. I rough house with Barnabus
though and often have scratches on my arms and hands.  I often wonder
what the doctors that I work with think when they see me. Of course
they may just think I've been working in a rose garden. I know I don't
need to warn you, but nonetheless, keep an eye on that scratch and
head to the doctor if it begins to get infected or doesn't heal
quickly.
Hugs, purrs, and gentle headbutts for Yule.

I doused it in Betadine (iodine) before I went to bed, and again this
morning.

I'm always covered in scratches, too, but not so often in the face. I
still have a scar across my arm from at least a year ago, courtesy of
Mir. It's funny, she never scratches me when we are rough-housing, but
she must insist on using me as a climbing tree, and that is when she
scratches me.

Once I was at a physiotherapist, and she asked me about the scratches
all over my back, and started looking at her own nails, thinking she'd
made them. I've had other doctors ask me if my back itches a lot. They
think I've scratched it myself, but I always point out that, due to my
frozen-shoulder syndrome, I couldn't even reach that far. ;)

Yikes! That sounds painful! But what a close call - thank God she
didn't manage to scratch you *in* the eye.

Get some mecuricome (sp? - I mean that red stuff you put on scratches
and scrapes) and you'll *really* be ready for Christmas.

Ouch purrs,
Joyce
