There was a story on the local news yesterday about a small dog that was
attacked by some teenagers. The elderly owner let the dog out at about 1 am
before he went to bed to do his business. The kids attacked the dog in his
own yard. The dog was cut from one side, across his back and down the other
side near his shoulders. It required over 100 stitches to close the large
cut. You could tell from the story and seeing the owner he didn't have alot
of money but he paid over $2,000.00 dollars for the vet bill.
The reason for the news story was the owner hoped someone would come forward
with info about the teens.
Local viewers have sent to the news station over $5,000.00 for the dogs
care. The owner has set up an account at the vets for the money to go for
any treatment the dog will need.

Those little cretins! Not just for the sadism and brutality against the
dog, but also, against the dog's human. Elderly people are often so
isolated, their pets are all the love they have. How devastating it would
have been if the dog had been killed. I am so, so glad the dog is going
to be OK! (Well, at least from what you've posted above, it sounds like
he will.) Many purrs for the poor dog and his poor human.
I just don't get this. And it's not like I'm exactly a saint. I've
gotten angry at people I care about, and said things I've regretted.
I've had temper tantrums when I didn't get my way, back when I was
younger (but not *enough* younger, LOL). I've certainly flamed people
on the Internet, both deserving and, unfortunately, sometimes
undeserving. I'm saying this so that you'll understand where I'm
coming from when I say the following: I really cannot fathom what
could be going through the mind of someone who would do something
like this. There isn't any part of this incident that I can identify
with or understand. Rage, I can understand. I'm not saying I would
condone acting out in rage, just that it's not an alien state of mind,
to me. But this was nothing more than cold-blooded sadism, against
an innocent and vulnerable creature, probably done for entertainment
and probably random. And that is utterly alien to me.
I really, really hope those kids are caught.

This is just unforgiveable. You know Ann, if one of my own children
had EVER abused any animal in any way, their rearend would have been
turned in, and they would have ended up at the psychiatrist's office
so quick that their head would have been spinning. When children
abuse animals, especially in such a horrific way, it's a red flag of
trouble to come.
Several years ago, my little JRT X was attacked in her own yard. I
had her on her tie out, and was standing in the doorway waiting for
her to get finished with her nightly pee, whenever two teenaged boys,
and one girl, jumped the hedge, into our yard, and began to kick her.
I couldn't catch them, (I'm disabled.) and could not see their faces.
We took the dog to the emergency vet immediately, and thank God,
nothing was broken. As it was, she was so sore that she was unable
to get around without pain for some months. She was 12 years old
whenever it happened, and is 14 years old now. Just now, as I was
reading your post, I was looking at her precious little face, and
thinking that I could just could not go on if something similar
happened to her. God bless that poor pet owner. His heart must be
near to breaking.

He had adopted the dog from a shelter a few years ago and it sounded like he
would do anything for the dog.

That was in the Register this morning. I have no interest in
understanding the thugs who did that and anyone who would try to harm
a pet of mine would find himself (or herself) in very hot water. One
day I was walking my little Snowball (RB) on the sidewalk on Chapel
Street and a young man who was riding his bike, illeglally, on the
sidewalk, came BETWEEN us, running over her leash and causing her to
have a neck injury. It turned out to be less serious than I first
feared and she was ok after awhile. Meanwhile, however, he was
laughing as he rode off down the street. He wasn't laughing when I
caught him the next day. Didn't laugh much for awhiile afterward
either.

I'm glad he is going to be okay although he may never trust strangers again;
I just can't fathom people doing this kind of thing. Praise to all the
wonderful folks to contributed to his care.

How horrible! Poor doggie and his owner. I'm relieved to hear the doggie
will recover.
Lots and lots of healing purrs,
