My neighbour (the former owner of Cricket and Gin Gin) has got two NEW
kittens! A ginger boy and a calico girl. About 6 weeks old. I feel sad
because I know he won't look after them. But what can I do? I wish I could
find homes for them. But even so I think he will just keep getting more. Why
oh why don't people have their cats desexed? Makes me angry..

I hear you, Flippy. My sister-in-law just proudly announced she has 13
new mixed-breed
puppies. I nearly went hydraulic when she told me. Instead of
congratulating her
like everybody else in the room was doing, I told her she should sit
in the lobby
of animal control for a couple of hours each morning and watch them
wheel the
bodies of that mornings' euthanasia victims to the dumpster. They make
trip,
after trip, every morning across the parking lot to the dumpster with
bodies.
She is mad at me now and not speaking to me. There is no excuse for
her to
let that dog have babies. The humane society has a program that she
could spay
her for ten dollars. I told hera bout it last spring. She said, "Oh, I
hate to spay her.
She has such cute puppies." Arrrgghh.
Purrs to the poor kittens. I hope a good alternative home comes up for
them, and
that they get fixed.

A man I know couldn't afford, so he said to have his female "fixed" and she
now has 16 puppies, they are 3 months old and he just now told me.  I asked
why he hadn't mentioned it before and his answer was, I knew you would be
mad.  For ONCE he was right. He HAS a plan, give away what he can as
Christmas presents and then, take the rest to the shelter.  I will be paying
to have his dog neutered as soon as my vet sets the appointment.

This is a plan right? What sort of plan? To give what he can away as
Christmas presents?Oh so he's going to present all his nearest and
dearest with a lovely cute puppy on Xmas Day? Any "leftovers" he's
going to take to the shelter where should they live long enough
they'll probably be reunited with their littermates?! Even when a
puppy or a kitten is being given as a gift with the full consent and
happiness of the recipient, it's generally not advisable to give them
in the middle of the festive season!

And Sherry, tell you SIL to go and watch the bodies of equally cute
puppies as her dog has being dumped outside the shelter and also I
would advise you to send her to be spayed!

Neither of these people are ignorant of spay/neuter programmes which
would be about the only excuse I would consider"

I don't mind stupid people if their stupidity only affects them but
when it affects puppies and kittens...

Good for you telling her that. She might be mad but it *might* sink in
a bit after a while. People just are idiots sometimes.

It it so sad that there are many people as ignorant as your sister-in-law, I
hope the reason she's not speaking to you is because she feels guilty.

Okay, so the neighbour isn't all that bad - apparently they are NOT his
kittens. His neice confirmed that. So I asked around, and it turns out that
the woman who lives a few doors down across the road lost her kitten about
six months ago. That kitten is now a cat and has two kittens of her own -
the same two kittens that I saw in my garden last week.

MamaCat is stunning - white & ginger, with beautiful pale blue eyes. Her
kittens are about five weeks old now and eating on their own. At the moment
the MamaCat and two babies are living under the decking of the house. My own
cats are too big to squeeze through the wooden lattice, but MamaCat is thin
and she doesn't have a problem.

I have been feeding all three of them for about a week now. They are all
very scared of people, especially Mama, but she does bring her babies here
to eat, thank goodness. MamaCat may have gained a bit of weight, and the
babies are doing well. I wish I could get close enough to pick them up and
take them to the vet. MamaCat needs to be spayed ASAP.

The woman across the road who lost Mamacat six months ago said that she
"doesn't want the cat back" because she has a bird now. Jeez. So many people
would give their right arm to have their beloved lost kitty back.

I will have to find homes for all three of them - I just cannot afford to
adopt any more cats. They won't come out to eat when I am outside, but I
will try to get pix of them through the window.

Anyway, I will keep you updated.

Purrs to all,
Flippy in Melbourne, Australia.

Purrs for successful trapping, Flippy. I'm so sorry about MamaCat - she
sounds like a beauty. Too bad her former slave was so clueless.

Many good luck purrs for finding homes for the little family.  If all of us
had homes and pocketbooks as big as our hearts we would probably keep all
the kitties and dogs that came into our lives!!

Lots of purrs that you can get the mother cat spayed before she gets
pregnant again and that you find loving homes for all three.

Thank you so much for taking care of them, Flippy.
We are sending lots and lots of purrs and best wishes for you to be able
to get near MamaCat so she can be spayed and for all of them to find
loving homes,

Purrs that you can find good forever homes for all three. Sounds like
the woman across the road doesn't deserve Mamacat.

I guess I'm among the world's worst at re homing strays - I've now got
three who either showed up here pregnant or with kittens, and two of
the kittens.

Me, too.

I wish people like this could be prevented from adopting.  Period.  Ever.
