Last night I lost my heart. To a tiny half-starved brown tabby stray
cat. He came to me via a rescue group in Cardiff who had begged me to
look after him as a favor. The person dropping him off with me said that
he had been caught on a notorious farm scavenging and existence in a
feral colony there. He had walked up to the trapper and meowed, and had
been caught. He is skin and bones.
But that's not the story. He spent yesterday in the vet, alledgedly
being neutered. Last night, he was dropped off to me, with the imortal
words "he smells of wee a bit, and is wet and dirty and he needs a
bath".
I decided to leave him quietly, and fed him, leaving him for the night.
This morning, he had peed in his bed - badly. I thought that he just had
litter box issues, and then I examined him.
His tail is so badly damaged, it's paralysed. He can't move it or feel
anything. He can't control his bladder - he's permanently wet. It's not
a new injury. It is *SO* not a new injury.
I took him back to the vet this evening and saw the senior partner, who
is going to x-ray his spine and check him out. I have no confidence, but
my hands are tied at the moment with this vets staff. You might say that
I wasn't diplomatic with the way I pointed out that her staff should
have noticed what was going on yesterday.
Please pray hard and send whatever purrs you can that this little chap
will be OK. He doesn't even have a proper name yet, even though his
forever home is lined up with me, HRFL Tiger and Pandora if he makes it
through this.
I can't believe I'm so utterly gutted over the fate of a scraggy stray
with no name, who I've only known for 12 hours.
Please send whatever well wishes you can.

Don't give up hope. It might be possible that it could be done, just like
my colleagues cat. She nearly gave up once or twice because progress was so
slow. I persuaded her not to give up, but she agonised about it. The cat
is perfectly well now, can control his bladder but has no tail, so what?
Vino doesn't have a tail either. He is *such* a love bug. I could stroke
him and stroke him when he's so proud of his bananas.

Purrs and prayers for the scruffy little guy. Shamrock had some sort
of injury before I got him that probably broke his tail at the base.
His tail is kinked right where it meets the top of his bottom, and
the vet noticed that he has a long scar right where it kinks. Poor
kitty. Some injuries are worse than others, and none of these sweet
animals deserve any of them.

Poor baby! I hope the vets can do something for him. Losing his tail
wouldn't be so horrible, but it would be really difficult for everyone
if he can't control his bladder.

Sorry to piggyback, but the OP never showed up on my server <grrrrrr>.
Major purrs from 1 give-away, 1 born-in-a-barn, 1 former stray, 4
found-in-the-yard-and-could-have-been-ferals, and 1
what-the-Sam-Hill-are-you doing-in-our-basement cat
On s side note, one of our TED's cats is a cat that lost it's tail due to
some (clueless as well as) cruel children pulling it a bit too hard, it was
incontinet for a long time, but TED says that over time it regained control
over it's bladder.

I've posted on the group before about a cat belonging to a work colleague
who dragged himself home with a paralysed tail one day. He'd been hit and
dragged by a car, apparently the vet could tell that because his claws were
scuffed from trying to hang on to the road.
He could not, at first, empty his bladder at all. He had to be taken to vet
to get relief, twice a day. Bladder problems seem to be connected to tail
paralysis.
After a few weeks, his bladder worked, but he had no control of it. He
wee'd everywhere. They questioned whether he had a quality of life, and if
they should keep him. Fortunately they did, and although he had to have his
tail amputated, piddle-wise he made a complete recovery. It did, however,
take several months.
Hope this give you hope for Tiny Tim.
