Roxy's cute new cuddly game

bastXXXette@sonic.net - 14 Dec 2007 23:34 GMT Roxy loves to get under the covers, but she doesn't usually stay there. She paws at the covers so I'll lift them for her, and she runs underneath, does some kind of very fast but inscrutable ritual in there, and then bolts right back out.
But this morning, instead of bolting out, she stopped right at the opening, which was created by my hand holding up the covers. With my other hand, I reached under and started petting her. She sat there purring and rubbing her head all over my hand. Aww.
We could have continued this indefinitely, but I suddenly noticed that my alarm clock was about to go off, and I didn't want her to be startled. So I very gently reached out to shut it off - but that movement was enough for her to decide to leave. Sigh.
I hope it's the start of a new morning ritual!

Granby - 14 Dec 2007 23:52 GMT Well, first of all you have to know, when she runs under the, she is probably checking for gremlins. After all, she has to make sure you are safe.

Awwww, the only problem with this becoming a morning ritual is that you are guaranteed to be late where ever you need to go. But you already know this don't you? Julie

Isn`t it wonderful to have warm, furry friends in the bed.<bg> My cats change their bed habits a lot. They seem to take turns of one or two weeks each. Zorro likes to sleep on my right side and changes position like I do i.e. rolls over when I do. She lefts after an hour or so, but there are nights where she stays all night long. This morning Luna decided to lie down on the left side of me. And usually I find in the morning one or two cats lieing on my feet. Hugo or Moritz.

Buster sometimes gets like that too! He digs at the covers, wantimg to come in, curls up for a few minutes, crawls back out, and then almost immediately starts digging at the covers again. It's very annoying. :) Both he and Dot will sometimes sleep under the covers for just half an hour or so. Betty, on the other hand, was such an under-cover cat that she'd stay under the covers even after I've gotten out of bed.
Buster's asleep on my lap right now, and Dot is watching over him in the seat next to me, and waiting her turn. I always feel very loved on when I'm at home.

Miranda likes to sleep under the covers with me, and she even stays there after I get up. But these days she will only get under the blanket if I take a nap during the day. Then she stays there for hours after I get6 up, usually until Caliban can't resist the temptation any longer and digs her out.
But when she was a kitten, she used to sleep under the covers with me at night, too. It was her safe haven from scary Nikki and Frank. She discovered a way to sleep in bed with Meowmie without F&N even noticing she was there. I remember how much I enjoyed having her there, snuggled up close to me. It was something I hadn't really experienced before. Neither Frank nor Nikki liked to do it, and I don't remember any of our cats when I was growing up doing it, either.
She was pretty good at wrapping her new slave around her silken little paw. :)

Later on, Roxy, who had been sleeping at the foot of my bed, decided to come up toward my head, and maybe climb on me, for a cuddle. All of a sudden, part of the bedspread started growling at her. She stopped and stared, looking puzzled. I put a stop to it before it turned into a full-blown hiss and spit fest, but I got a kick out of Roxy's face. I could just see the "WTF?" above her head. :)

Almost without fail, either Ranger or Sammy (rarely both of them) will notice that someone is under the covers. As soon as they figure that out you can just about hear the gears grind as they figure the best way to dislodge the under-cover cat.
Sammy's preferred technique is to feign ignorance and walk over the under-cover kitty lump ("Oh, is someone under there? I had no idea."). The fact that he spent the last few minutes staring and sniffing at the lump spoils his claims of innocence, though.
Ranger doesn't even try to pretend. He just stands a few feet away, raises up on his back paws, and makes a "Bonzaii!!!" pounce.

Caliban can seldom resist the Mir lump for very long. His technique is to crawl under the blanket himself and start grooming Miranda vigorously. This will usually drive Miranda out, and I'll find her sitting somewhere, very sleepy-eyed and looking disgruntled after her rude awakening. Meanwhile, Caliban snoozes peacefully under the blanket.

She always kneads me and the blanket for a while before she politely asks me to lift the cover so she can get under it. But when I lift it, Caliban is already there, snoozing away! In HER place! The look of sheer disappointment she gives me on those occasions is withering! It is clear she is utterly disgusted with me for letting Caliban usurp Her Highness' place.
