All the cats are normal, eating well and the litter box looks fine. :-/
I'm hoping this was a fluke and everybody is ok. One good thing came out
of this experience though, as I finally went ahead and enrolled the kids
in an insurance plan. I chose the one offered through the ASPCA, as it
is a great organization and their prices were very competitive!

I'm glad they are all alright, but it would have been nice for you to
know what happened, of course. Purring that it doesn't return, whatever
it was.

Purring that it was no more than a very sophisticated Bastard Cat Trick, but
why great catdaddies like you and Tom deserved it is beyond me.

Ah, it's because we feed them that horrible super premium, human-grade,
no fillers, real meat and fish fancy food. If only we returned their
favorite, chinese-fake-protein laden food.... they'd be happy! But that
ain't gonna happen!

They want their McCatfood back! Junk food tastes better than healthy stuff.

Also, that would be a bit of a "cut your nose off to spite your face" BCT,
since it can't have been very much fun for Luna!

I'm glad she's OK.

We were tidying up a bit and I discovered a bag of hot paprika with
teeth marks on it. I wonder if one of the cats got into the paprika and
it irritated her tummy enough to cause some bleeding?

For that matter, considering the color of paprika, are you sure it was
blood at all?

Oh yeah, very different colors. I even grabbed some of the paprika and
dissolved it in water. It's more of an orangey-red, not a blood-red like
blood is. Plus there were also a couple of small clots.

Yeah, paprika is sort of rust-colored, I guess. Still, I thought that
maybe, mixed with other food, plus stomach acid, it might have ended
up looking blood-like. Anyway, I wasn't there - you were. :) So maybe
your theory that the spice irritated her stomach is a sound one. Although
if that is the case, it seems like she might need to be on antacids. It
seems a bit extreme for her to throw up so much blood after just one
incident of eating an irritating food. Maybe she already had an ulcer,
and this just aggravated it?

Other than an endoscopy, how do they diagnose ulcers? If any of our cats
would ever get an ulcer, it would most certainly be Luna. :)

I used to have a cat who had a bleeding ulcer - it was diagnosed by
her throwing up blood. Maybe some blood in her stool, too (this was quite
a number of years ago, so I'm not sure).

I guess if neither of those things are happening now, she doesn't have
an active ulcer, maybe just a very sensitive stomach. It would probably
be good to keep an eye on it.

That certainly sounds likely,if that's the case you've nothing to worry
about now.

So glad things are settling down.  I was a bit worried there.
