I have been quite amused by the differences I've seen in preferences
between the kitties. Most of them don't seem to have a strong preference
for either Nancy or me. Amelia loves to shoulder-ride with both of us and
snuggles with both of us. Tabitha likes to shoulder-ride with either of us
and tolerates a LITTLE bit of petting from either of us. Sammy and Ranger
like to snuggle with both of us, and they both have to come and knead on
both of us when we go to bed.
Cleo and Harri, however, are different. Cleo has very clearly chosen Nancy
as her human. She sleeps on Nancy's pillow or curled up next to Nancy, she
allows Nancy to pet her for long periods while only allowing me a few
strokes now and then, and sometimes follows her from room to room.
Since Harri and I spent so much time together in the truck, we bonded
quite strongly. She loves to stretch out in my lap for hour-long snuggles,
but won't sit in Nancy's lap at all. She's getting better - she used to
avoid Nancy all together, but she now let's Nancy pet her.
Harri's pickiness is showing itself in a strange way. I haven't been
feeling especially chipper this week, so I've been going to bed a little
earlier than usual. Harri doesn't appreciate this, as it means less
snuggle time. Tuesday night after I went to bed she was wandering around
the living room and dining room dragging one of her boa feather toys,
crying her "this is my toy!" cry. She would walk up to Nancy and do this,
and as soon as Nancy would reach down to pet her she would move away.
Nancy finally figured out that Harri was saying "Mama, go get Papa and
make him come down stairs!". The poor girl wanted her lazy human to pay
some attention to her! I've been trying to spend some extra time with her
the rest of this week.

I always figured Harri would have some "issues" when she had to share you.
I remember how protective she was.

Aw, how sweet! Harri is so cool. Here, Mir is pretty much my cat and
shies away from other humans, though she does accept my sister and niece
a bit more readily. Maybe she remembers that they're the ones who kept
her alive when her own mama didn't have enough milk for her babies.
But Caliban loves everyone. I'd like to think he loves me especially,
but I can't really delude myself. He even got into Mum's lap one day
when she was visiting.

What a clever girl!
