Catnipped's video is on Youtube and so am I. I subscribed and she got
to see videos of me playing with fire.
I was gonna get into more detail in response to your post Catnipped,
but I figure that the others might not understand. And I wanted to
post something about this anyway.
So to the rest of you, a slight OT subject. hehehehe
Yes, I play with fire. I have a dance and martial arts background and
now I do it with special fire tools. I've been doing it for about 6
months now. I'm part of a performance troupe now and we're currently
putting together shows for New Year's Eve and Chinese New year. I
don't spin poi (wicks on chains) but I do spin staff and straight
fans, can crack a flaming bull whip, breathe fire, and my specialty is
folding fans.
Now in response to Catnipped's question...."How many times did you get
burned learning to
do that?!! "
Depends on what you mean by "gettting burned" Lemme put it this
way....
Have I burned my skin? Yes, not that severely, mostly small little
first degree burns a few times. Had one of my finger, brushed my arms
a few times. I recently got a small burn across my cheek, but i was
wearing safety glasses so it just brushed my cheek. Yes it sounds
horrid, and yes it stung, but a week later and you can hardly tell it
was there. Never had a serious burn (*knocksonwood/rubsrabbitfoot/
scratcheskittybelly*)
Here's a pic that was taken during practice on Sunday and you can see
it. http://people.tribe.net/firekrys/photos/36080adf-511e-4866-9d14-e447e290276d
Have I set my clothes on fire? Yep, a few times. I always light up
with a safety person who holds a fire blanket. And most of the time
when i've caught my leg, or shoulder on fire, the safety will yell out
and I just turn and pat it out. There have been a few times when i've
had to be put out, but it was just fine. And I'm always wearing
cotton clothes or something flame retarded, and especially during
practice i wear my hair covered, safety glasses and gloves if I need
it.
I have singed my hair a few times too. Singed my bangs a few times
and I'm currently growing back the two inches of my ponytail that I
burned off last month.
But i still have a lot of fun. I haven't been performing in years and
I'm really having fun with this. I get to use my dance and martial
arts teachigns and merge them together.
And yes I know I'm crazy. MUHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Don't worry, I'll be careful, I promise.

You should post the video, Kristi - folks, she's seriously good (when I
first saw the video I thought Kristi was taping a street performer like they
have on the docks at Key West - that's how good she is!)

I guess in performance art like that you either learn to get real good, real
fast, or you give it up early! ;> No *WAY* would I ever attempt such a
thing given my klutziness.

Wow. I once touched a metal plate at a Mexican restaurant, got a little
blister smaller than a dime, and I whined about it for a week!!! ;>

Again, I wouldn't even stand close to you while you do it - klutzes and fire
don't mix well! ;>

BTW, I meant to tell you this....
I know at one time you said your mom was always fussing at you about your
weight. Next time, tell her this:
Ben saw your video and he was blown away (he has a crush on you). He thinks
you are *awesome*! Whenever he sees one of the current "super models" he
frowns, makes a face reflecting distaste, and says, "Bones are for dogs -
men feast on meat!" ;> And, as a former dancer, tell your mom that I said
you are in fantastic shape - no medical worries if you're fit enough to move
your body like that!!

Thank you that's very sweet of you to say.
I have lost weight doing this and it's great exercise. :P And I do
feel better about myself too.

That looks *cool*! (OK, it looks hot. :)) I'll have to go look at the
YouTube video when I get a chance. I'd love to see the show with the group
of you, it looks like it would be beautiful.
By the way, some of the photos are not coming up. "First Gig", "No Smoking",
and "Anna" display for about 2 seconds, and then disappear. Too bad, I
was interested in seeing those. The others seemed to show up just fine.
Love the parrot!
