Monique Y. Mudama - 06 Dec 2007 20:47 GMT What is it that's so fascinating about my closet? Oscar is always trying to sneak her way in. She's not supposed to be there, most especially because she thinks my cashmere sweaters are actually kitty blankies.
Yesterday, I came home. DH was already home, as usual. I thought it odd that Oscar wasn't visible; she often greets me in the evening. So I called her name and heard a faint "mewww". I recruited DH and we walked around looking for the sound. I more or less went straight to the closet door; opened it up and out popped my cat. She'd been in there since the morning, when I had closed the door with the fateful words, "I'd better close this before Oscar gets in here."
I commented offhandedly that I had better hearing than DH, which got me a dirty look. DH's version of events is that she simply hadn't mewed when he called her name. His hearing is just as good as mine, thank you very much.
Of course, there's no way to know who is right, and it really doesn't matter. I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel!

My girls are experts at sneaking through an open closet door, even when I think there's NO WAY they could get past me without my seeing them. (Sometimes, when one gets shut in, the other will oet me know, but not always.)

I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel! Persia adores the closet in this room (my office). There's a comforter in there for my sofa bed and she curls up on it and takes long naps. I don't care since I've never actually *used* the sofa bed as a bed. She doesn't seem to care about my bedroom closet.

Oscar is allowed in the office and in both guest rooms, where she happily takes advantage of the bed and futon.
There's a closet in our office that's off-limits, filled floor to ceiling with hardware and related boxes. She sometimes sits at the door to that closet, mewling to be let in, pawing under the door. I have no idea what about that closet is so fascinating.

She has no interest in the door to the garage, and little interest in anything outside unless we're out there. Some closed doors are boring; some are fascinating. And she doesn't really care about cupboards.
Just another kitty mystery.

You'd think so, but she doesn't do that to the hall closet ...
Maybe she just likes the deep closets, easier to hide?

The furballs go nuts to get in once the door is shut. Now when I open it they charge in and experience death from above. They charge out of the shower soaked. They do this all the time and never learn. The door is shut Daddy is doing something they can't be involved in so it means we have to be there no matter what ;-)

Oscar isn't interested in showers. When I first got her, she was a kitten, and she mewed at me while I was in the shower, but since then ... not so interesting.
Baths are another matter ...

I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel! Oh, I am well trained. I leave my closet doors about 8 inches open all the time for my cats. In fact, there is a cat bed, a kitty cube, and a kitty igloo in the closet, for the cats' comfort. At least they [mostly] stay off my clothes. :-)
Purrs, Flippy.

But I think no matter what, soft wool sweaters that smell like me are going to be the winner. Gotta keep her out of that closet! It's pretty obvious the rest of the house exists for her pleasure (beds, scratching posts, cat tree, toys, etc...)

I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel! Pearl likes to sleep in a cardboard box behind the closet door. When she does, that is it. No response, no call can wake her. It must be an extra secluded comfy thing. I know that the few times I haven't been able to find Sugar, she is in the closet somewhere too, and she will NOT answer when I call. I have to get out a feather and thwap it on a door or wall. Sugar would have to be clinically comatose to ignore the "thwap" of a feather.

Marina - 07 Dec 2007 05:01 GMT > What is it that's so fascinating about my closet? I don't know, it's dark and soft and enclosed, and it smells of Meowmie. What more could a cat want? Mir also waits for any opportunity to sneak into my closet. I'm alway worried that I will shut her in and leave for work, so I do a head count before I leave home. This also ensures that I haven't shut anyone out in the enclosure.
But when she does sneak into the closet, she doesn't stay on the lower shelves. Oh no, my monkeycat has to climb to the top shelf, pushing clothes to the floor as she goes. I have some old towels and pillows on the top shelf, and these are her throne, from which she looks down upon us, the plebs, down on the floor. Caliban hasn't figured out how to climb the shelves, so he has to settle for the lower shelves he can jump to.

I do the same, because on the few occasions when I forgot, I came home to discover one or the other of my tow had spent the entire day in the clothes closet! Did that stop them sneaking in at the next opportunity? Not at all - they only learn from experience when they chopose to.
Cendrillon has discovered that the cupboard doors in my kitchen do not have latches (and only weak magnets if they have magnetic catches at all). Consequently, I've been treated all morning to her banging the cupboard doors - she hasn't tried to get into them yet, apparently just likes the noise they make.

Rusty has no problem opening them despite his missing toes. That also means he won't be shut in a closet.

I'm just glad Oscar seems to have a bladder of steel! Awww -- Poor Oscar. Trying hard not to laugh, but I can't help it. Geesha (RB) loved the closet even more than most cats, and of course, it was inevitable that one day, I wouldn't see her, and would accidentally shut her in. Which I did, of course. She had a bladder of steel as well, and was quite relieved (ahem) to be let out of there so she could run to the litterbox.

alisont - 17 Dec 2007 21:03 GMT Tigger has completely claimed my closet. It is her safe place where Tank is not allowed. I can't hang anything on the lower rack because it gets completely covered with cat hair. And it is one of those folding type doors so she can open it easily. I'm in the process of redesigning my closet so I don't hand anything where it can get cat hair on it. I tried wedging the door shut once because I was tired of cat hair all over my clothes. I came home to a pile of poop directly in front of the door. She made her point LOL. So the closet is being reconfigured for Tigger's comfort.
