Picked up Princess from TED this afternoon and she's recuperating from
her spay. She seemed a little wobbly when I picked her up, but is OK
now that the meds have worn off. I had to stop her from jumping a
couple times already, so will have to watch her so she doesn't pull
the stitches. She doesn't seem to be in too much discomfort, but we
all know how well cats can hide pain. I brought home a weeks worth of
pain meds, which is to be given once a day. Before I hit the sack
tonight she'll get the first dose. I remember I only gave Sammy a
couple days worth, because without the pain I had trouble keeping Sam
from running and jumping. I think this will work out better, because
instead of a pill this is a two ml of oral solution. I'll start out
with a full dose, but if Princess starts to run around more than I
think she should I can give smaller doses.

Don't know if I already told you all, but I took four close up pics of
Furby last night - one of them is now my cell wallpaper. I just
uploaded a pic of Princess, and you can see that although there's no
doubt Furby looks a lot like Princess, they do have different faces.

She's a lovely little girl.  One of those feline child moms, I guess.

I only had to give Sugar a half dose of pain meds the day after. It
seemed to be enough to get her over the hump. Hope recovery is smooth!

Either I've become better at recognizing a cat in pain, or Princess
isn't as good an actress as the others were. With her I can tell that
she hurts from the way she sits and walks, and tell the difference
about 10 minutes after giving her a dose of pain meds. BTW, she
extremely easy to dose. I just sat on the floor, and when she came
over to been petted I held her head and squirted the dose in her
mouth. She licked a few times and gave me a disgusted look. I'm not
sure if the look was because I quit petting her long enough to squirt
it in her mouth or because of the taste ;-)

I'm glad she is so cooperative! I hope she is getting along. How is
Furby adapting?

Furby has calmed down a lot. She will even venture out to where she
can be seen when I'm in the room instead of hiding in the corner. I
still have the end of an old fly rod Rocky and I used to play with
outside. Last night I had to go fishing to get her when it was time to
get her out from under the bed to return her to the bathroom. There's
just something about the end of a string bouncing along the edge of a
bed that always seems to bring a kitten out into the open ;-) Furby
and I played with it for a while, it was time for Princess and her to
go back into the bathroom and the resident cats to come in and sniff
around. I've been bringing in the established cats one at a time to
meet the new additions, and so far they're getting along better than I
had hoped. Princess ignores them as long as she's alone, but acts like
she wants to fight when Furby is in the room, too.

Nothing like Spotty was, though. Spotty went into attack mode and used
to chase LB and Sammy out of the room. Princess hisses and lets
everyone know to keep their distance, but doesn't try to chase anyone.
Furby does the normal kitten thing and ignores the big bad hissing cat
and does whatever she wants. So far, the only time anyone has swatted
at Furby, it was Princess who got mad at Furby. Princess was warning
Spotty away and Furby went trotting up to examine Spot closer. Furby
stopped and looked at Princess, and Spot took the opportunity to jump
up on the bed. When poor Furby turned back to where Spot had been and
Spot on disappeared.

That's great they are doing well. Sounds like if  you just keep going
like that all will be fine.

Over here in the Uk I have never been given pain meds after a spay
(for the cats not me I hasten to add!). In  fact one vet told me that
they don't advise pain meds because the cat might then jump up and
open the stitches whereas if they are in some pain it might stop them
doing it. However I've never seen a cat show much distress after a
spay, apart from Fugazi (RB) and that may have been needing to give
her twice the anaesthetic because she went a bit mad. Sarsi and Dunzi
were done at 9.30, collected by 1.30 and were home and eating before
2.30- our vets always give out a pate type food for the first few days
in case they're feeling a bit queasy and I have never yet (and I know
about 7 cats spayed or neutered at this practice) heard of any cat
eating the stuff

Same here - never got any pain meds after a spay. Miranda did look
miserable the first day, but I attributed that as much to her body
stocking and e-collar as to pain:

Glad she is home and doing well. She's so young, she will snap right
back from her surgery, I'm sure. She is such a pretty girl. She looks
like a very skinny Caliban. :)

I'm not sure how long she'll be skinny LOL Right now, between her and
Furby they're eating as much soft food and the other three put
together.

Saw the pics, Steve.  A cute couple of new owners.  Hope the integration
goes well.

Awwwww -- so glad Princess came home fine, but I know what you mean
about worrying about the jumping and such.  I know you'll worry no
matter what, but honestly, IME, it's pretty rare that they do anything
drastic enough to make a difference in their healing.  I nearly tore my
hair out over Merlyn when she was spayed (see Flippy's website and Dave
Stevenson's for that story!), but she healed just beautifully.  Katie
was smarter, and didn't push it, but she healed so perfectly and was so
easy, they just snipped the stitches out in the lobby area at the vet's
(they were *very* busy, and knew my guys were pretty easy to deal with).

The liquid pain meds sounds like a great idea, and I bet that will help
you out a lot.

seems like there's a couple news ones every day or so.

As far as the pain meds go, she got a full dose the first day, half a
dose the second, and probably won't need a dose today. They bounce
back a lot faster than I would LOL, and she seems to be a lot better
at not pushing things than the others. Maybe it helps that she stays
segregated in the bathroom for the most part.

The integration is slow but steady. Little Bit was upset with me last
night, when it was time for her to go to bed Furby was on my chest,
and LB let me know it with a hissy fit. As usual, the kitten ignored
the big bad hissy cat.

They look better with each picture.  You're doing a grand job with all
of them, Steve. Furby looks a little like Pine Cone did as a kitten.
I think Piney has more brown in his tabby.  Probably a reminder of his
coney beginnings.;-)

So far the only time I can get them in the same pic is when they're
eating. Last night they were both playing with the "mouse" on the fly
rod toy I made for Rocky, but of course the cell phone was plugged in
the bathroom
