I took in a pregnant stray who gave birth to 5 kittens. Two normal toms, a
queen with a form of syndactyly, ie one toe on her front feet, one qeen with
3 toes on her front feet, (she died at 48 hrs) and a tom, Charlie with 3 toes
on his front feet, 5 on his back and no claws!! There are some little claw-
like stumps on some toes but others have nothing at all. Has anyone ever come
across anything like that?

It is a unfortunate genetic mutation  it happens :-(

Well, if you WANT a clawless cat, that seems a much more
humane way of obtaining one than surgically depriving them
of those they were born with!

Depends on what other traits come along with that gene problem.

His hips over flex but appart from that he seems fine. He's nearly 5 months
old, lively and bright and more than makes up for his lack of claws with his
teeth! Aaah... kitten teeth. I may suggest he is x-rayed when he has his
'little op' in the new year as his vet is part of a teaching hospital.

Charlie and I live in the UK, de-clawing is thankfully illegal here. There
are probably other things wrong with him other than his claws so I won't be
breeding from him... shame!

I don't think it is unfortunate, I'm thrilled, Charlie hasn't a clue he's
different and, as long as he has no life threatening mutations he can look
forward to a long pampered life with me. :-)

You got that backwards ;-)  it is fortunate more than anything that he has a
proud cat slave that will love and pamper him unconditional
