Cats are truly excellent at keeping down mice, far better than traps and
little trays of poison! I think they do a lot of the mouse-repelling by
force of personality, or possibly force of cat-scent.

I live in an old house of a type that's notorious locally for affording
easy access to mice. The previous tenants warned me that in spite of all
their efforts with poison, they had been unable to stem the tide of mice
(which they blamed on the sloppy habits of tenants in the adjoining
buildings, of course). I got rid of the poison, moved in with two cats,
and never saw so much as dropping or mouse whisker. For many years,
there wasn't even a sign of a mouse body part, although eventually the
cats got slow or sloppy - or maybe the mice did.

That's great! Whenever I hear about people or institutions having
rodent problems, using poisons, traps, etc, to try to combat it, I
always wonder why they don't just *get a cat*?? (Or a few, depending
on the size of the problem.) No need for dangerous chemicals - just
let simple ecology do the work.

And I love how Tizer is a morale-booster for the force. He must love
his new job!

Awww. I wish USians were as cat friendly. I'm quite sure there would be
a lot of noise about possible allergies if that were suggested here.
