I finally talked to somebody at the office - it looks like mean-spirited
ex-neighbors. They put a plug in the sink when they moved out two weeks
ago, and turned on a slow trickle of water. Yesterday, it overflowed and
seeped into our apartment plus three others.

The cats are recuperating, and even investigating the blowers. Bucky is
still nervous and comes to me several times to be petted and reassured.
Little Boy has been a little agressive, but has mostly worked it off on a
cat toy (take THAT, you evil, water-drip-causing toy!), and love nips to my
hand.

This has been a difficult month, and I'm ready for it to QUIT being
difficult... Thank goodness for my internet access via Treo handheld.

Hugs and Purrs,

WTF is wrong with people???  Got a problem with management?  Write them a
letter.  Write them several letters.  Contact the local housing authority
(or whatever agency mediates/regulates whatever problems they claim to
have).  File a lawsuit if things are so bad (not that I advocate frivilous
lawsuits but come on!)

May I hazard a guess these people were evicted?

Willfull property damage is actionable in court.  Chances are the landlord
will track them down and sue the crap out of them, and I hope they take
those former tenants for everything they've got.  These are not inexpensive
repairs.  Three apartment units damaged?!  Ridiculous.

If your landlord can find out where they are they need to file criminal
charges.  This is a willful misconduct resulting in destruction of property.
Their behaviour is akin to a child throwing a temper tantrum. Their defense
attorney will argue some bullshit about how they didn't know the plug was in
the drain; they didn't know the faucet was dripping.  Who leaves an
apartment without making sure everything is okay?  Most people want to get
their security deposit back.

Purrs for the kitties' nerves and for yours as well.  What a PITA to have to
deal with!

Purrs continue for the entire Edwards household.

Yes, the ex-neighbors were awful to do something like that.  But don't the
owners of the apartments have them checked for that sort of thing very soon
after they are vacant?  I can imagine a lot of other things they might have
left to eventually make everyone miserable as well.

OMG -- talk about horrible neighbors!  What a thing to do.

Glad the furries are recuperating okay.

Wishing you (and I, and Monique, and everyone else who needs it) a less
stressful rest of November and on.
