Ginger-lyn - 14 Nov 2007 23:24 GMT I've said I'm not in a position to deal with rescues and strays anymore. I lost my friend Therese over the last one I tried to help (although he did get a good home). So why do I have a sleek little black boy on my (still sinking) bed?
I just fed him. That's all. Yeah, I know. <grin> But while I was feeding him, my next-door-neighbor yelled "Is that your cat?" "No," I said. "Well if I see it around here again, I'm gonna kill it."
Okay. Inside we go, with the cat. Phone calls to the police and Humane Society give me no help, since the a**h*le hadn't actually done anything. But I am not about to leave this cat out with a threat like that being made.
Just what I needed.
So on my Trill and Merlyn vet trip, I took "Pinky" along. "Pinky" because he has a pink collar on. I get him tested so he does not have to be stuck in a carrier. He's fine, no feleuk or FIV. And he's neutered and declawed (hisssssssssss). The vet suggests he ran away from home because he was just *so* embarrassed they put a pink collar on him -- lol!
While it's possible he was dumped, it's still more likely he got out somehow. He's an affectionate little thing, although he's definitely a hoolikitten, too. Vet figures he was born in the spring, or perhaps last winter. So he's not a year old yet. I'm guessing 6-7 months.
So I've got a flyer up at the vet, a posting on petfbi.org, checking the lost and found ads, checking the neighbors. No luck so far. Since I had him tested, he's allowed to be near my beasts, although the one time I let him out of my room to see how that went, he was pretty much surrounded by hissing cats. Poor little guy.
Bast, you gotta stop sending them to me!

He hasn't been outside long; he looks very healthy.
I won't comment on the declawing; it just raises my blood pressure dangerously....
Perhaps you will find his humans before you get too attached to the adorable fellow.
Most likely, he got into the great OUT somehow, and just got lost.
I hope his humans are working as hard to find him, as you are to find them!
He's lucky he found a real cat lover, to look after him. But then, it seems like cats seem to be able to do that, quite well.....
Best of luck finding his humans.

> Most likely, he got into the great OUT somehow, and just got lost. It's either that, or someone dumped him, although I find the latter possibility hard to imagine. I think you're right; he's a heck of a runner, and I bet he just took one fast run through a door and into the great OUT and kept going before realizing "Wait a minute! Where in the heck am I?"

Purrs that > you can renew your friendship with Therese. Thanks, Adrian. I don't know if that's possible, but sometimes time apart will heal. A friend of mine who left my life a couple of years ago e-mailed me again this summer, and apologized for being judgmental. She told me she had learned things from me that she would carry with her throughout her life. I guess for every one that slams you, someone else says something that makes you smile like a fool :-)

Dewi - 15 Nov 2007 11:52 GMT Oh I know what you mean. I have my 9 and the neighbourhood tom enjoys sitting right next to their enclosure watching them. I think cats just attract more cats. So much for them being loners.
I truely hope that pink collared kitty gets re-united with his humans and that they are nice people.
He is beautiful.

Although there are occasional spats, and one brat (Jack), I so often find two (or more!) of them curled up together, sleeping peacefully with paws and tails overlapping.

I'd arrange purrs for his loving owners to show up but they've gone to the litterbox-offering corner for the declawing.
So may I have the boys purr instead for this lovely chap to find a better home with you or a pal?

It is funny (not funny-funny, but you know what I mean) to have a declawed cat in the midst of a bunch of clawed cats. Especially in the beginning, I really worried about Wolfie and probably fussed over him to much. And starting thinking "I really hope I am not giving this poor cat a complex!" He was still limping when I got him, and I worked with him carefully, massaging his paws as he would let me, and encouraging him to flex. He "scratches" all the time now. The other cats figured out pretty quickly that he was missing something important, and as a general rule, everyone keeps their claws in when it comes to Wolf.
I kept thinking that maybe I was overdoing it with him, and had to wonder about my attitude. I wouldn't go around saying "Oh, you poor thing! to a human in a wheelchair. I'd probably get walloped with a handbag or something if I did -- lol. So I consider Wolfie to be "differently-abled", and well able to protect himself when needed (believe me, a wallop from his paw *hurts*!)
Ginger-lyn and this doesn't change the fact that I do not believe declawing is ever (unless it's a legitimate medical reason) appropriate.

Poor little guy. You might also consider posting some flyers around the neighborhood (without too much of a description - maybe just mention the pink collar but no info about the cat other than that - make them describe the cat including colour, sex, etc.)
Purrs you find the hoomins who lost him (and that they are decent people, despite the declawing thing).

I don't usually like putting collars on my cats (nor do they appreciate it). But when they changed the law here, where cats have to get rabies shots, be up-to-date, and wear collars with the rabies tags if they aren't chipped, I sighed and put them in collars. Sabra, who was my sleek black baby (he died of lymphoma a couple of years ago), would never have tolerated pink. Sabra was a Princess (even though he was a guy); DH and I used to joke that the perfect collar for him would be deep red with diamonds on it). I certainly was not about to put diamonds on his collar (lol! With what money would I do such an insane thing?), but he got a nice red collar that looked very lovely against his sleeky black fur.

I surely would. And I'm wary of bunchers and such, so I am uncomfortable putting up found posters.

I wouldn't choose pink because I think it's an ugly color, whether on a boy or girl. And black and pink just makes me think of Good'n'Plenty's. :) But other than that, you could pick almost any color. You know what they say, "black goes with everything". :) Green would be really nice, so would gold.
