Dulce Mae is the abndoned black girl kitty that we feed. She is
sweet-natured, loving, and bouncy. When she comes inside, she almost
hops like a bunny.
But Dulce has another side too. She doesn't care for boy kitties, and
she hates thieves.
We also have a couple of large raccoons who come around. Buster has
shown that he is friends with them, and the raccoons seem to mostly,
but not completely afraid of people.
However, they don't waste any time getting out of Dulce Mae's way.
One evening, the raccoons were at the food dish. There were two other
cats nearby, and me at the window. The raccoons were keeping an eye on
the other cats, and on me, in case they had to run away. One of the
raccoons (the one I scared witless, once) usually stands on his hind
legs and peers into our window to see where I'm at (grin), before
chowing down.
Well Dulce Mae decides she is tired of letting the raccoons steal her
food, and she sneaks up behind one of them, and slaps his tail.
The raccoons decides to make the better part of valour, and leave.
A few nights later, Dulce Mae is at the food bowl when one of the
raccoons approaches the food bowl. Dulce may slaps him across the
nose, and bends back down to her dinner.
When the raccoon slinks back, she puts one paw on the raccoon's head
and pushes him away. This time the raccoon stays gone. At least until
he has more privacy (grin).

That's quite a tale. Here in CA, it's illegal to feed raccoons,
possums, and skunks. We used to leave food dishes out twenty-four
hours for the ferals, but were getting night visits from the other
three species as well. We didn't mind for a while, but eventually we
started only leaving food out in the daytime. They've started to
develop the lot adjoining ours, so the wild critters have mostly moved
on.
