That's what they're thinking, I'm sure.
I'm not letting them into my room, and it's driving them crazy.
Especially Brando, who sits outside in the hall and meows pitifully,
until I come out and hug him and pet him and say "Brando! My bestest,
sweetest big boy!". I miss them, too.
But there's a hole in my air mattress. Sigh. I know the culprit who
put it there. I looked up from the computer the other day to see Sweet
Miss Katie looking excited at a discovery she had made. Unfortunately,
the discovery was the mattress underneath the blankets. And her claw
was in it.
She's a sweet girl, but way too curious for her own good!
So now I have to pump it up every night, and wake up nearly down to the
board. It's wreaking havoc on my various physical pain problems, to say
the least. Luckily (or maybe not -- we'll see here in a few hours) Bob,
the NICE Fix-It guy was over last week and I happened to ask him if he
knew of anyone who had a waterbed bladder they wanted to get rid of.
"Well, actually I do," he said. Woo-hoo! It's actually one of the
weirdest waterbeds I've ever seen. It's too small to fit in the
king-size frame I have, but it's soft-sided, so it doesn't really
matter. It's got seven tubes that hold water, and a giant piece of foam
rubber, with a settop (I think they call it) thing with a zipper that
goes around and covers the whole thing, so it looks like a normal bed.
I have no idea if I can use a heater with it, though :-( But for now,
it will be a bed that doesn't deflate every night.
And then *maybe* I will let the cats back in. AFTER I trim all their claws!

The patch kits that come with air mattresses are mostly worthless except
for big tears. I use AirStop (sporting goods section of Walmart). It's a
liquid you apply to the leak and let dry (four or five layers).
I finally solved the whole leak problem by buying a ComfortAire mattress.

Me too. My cats have solved that problem by eating the wires that connect
the controllers to the air pump. Several times. Pump is currently shot and
replacement on the way. Just when I was getting pretty good at replacing
the wires after saturating them with bitter apple.
This time it died with very little air on my side so I've got a stiff neck
until we get help. I'd like to think the new pump was shipped before the
holiday weekend and will be here tomorrow. I know better, but I like to
think that.

Of course you can use it with a heater! Those tubes were very popular for a
long time because you don't have to drain them to move the bed. Just unplug
the heater, pull the tubes out (okay, have someone who doesn't have back
problems or weight restrictions pull the tubes out) and voila! I should
have bought that type for my king soft-side but they were very expensive at
the time. I'm still kicking myself.

I had one of those for quite a few years. One of the advantages of them is
that if you get a leak, it is in only one tube, which can be replaced. Of
course, like any waterbed, if you have a leak, you are also likely to have a
mess. I don't think they can be heated the way a regular waterbed can, but
you can use an electric mattress pad with them.
