I went to the Bahamas in ... 1998, I think.  Flew.  I don't remember
much in the way of details.  I think they required a passport.  One
important point, if you don't have one yet -- I hear passports are
taking a lot longer than usual lately, so you definitely want to get a
jump on that and / or pay for rush processing.

Well I got mine very quick I applied on 10/2/07 got it 10/25/07 with normal
processing.  I was shocked when I got it.  I did not go thru the post office
I went to the courthouse and avoided that BS make an appointment.  It takes
5 minutes to sign everything and to repeat after me statement

I had one years ago but I let it expire and they had to a whole new package

Right now I think it is July 08 that if you are traveling  anywhere you have
to have it  but going to the Bahamas I think all you need is your driver's
license or some proof of

I wanted to see how the excursions are down there.  I booked a cruise down
there  even though I live in Florida I have never been there

We flew down to Freeport out of Miami around Christmas in the mid=70's
- a long time ago!  We hated it.  Never went back.

Remember that it was the mid-70's when we were there.  I don't know
the politics down there now, but they were not friendly to Americans
back then.  Everything was terribly expensive.  The first hotel that
we checked into - that we had made reservations at 6 months prior -
was a total wreck.  I don't remember the name of it.  We got a cab and
luckily got a room at a hotel that was next door to the casino.  It
was better, but.................

We had cold stormy weather for the entire week - and that didn't help
things.  I was very happy to come back to the good old USA!  But,
again, this was a long time ago - surely things have improved??????

Yep! The storms have improved considerably!  :)
This evening the storm barriers at the west coast
of Holland have been closed (The barriers they could
have used in LA recently) :)
and they seem to be evacuating places in England.

This seems really scary, with some places being threatened both by
rain-fed flooding and ingress of seawater.  Let's hope everybody
and their furry friends are all right tonight.

Any regulars from that part of England or Holland?

I think Wafflycat Helen is from Norfolk (?) and Tweed from Lincolnshire
but hopefully not near the coast... hope they will check in and let us
know they are OK.

I've been, under a less than ordinary situation. We had a grand time.
Honestly, I don't remember what the hotel looked like. Hmmmm, I wonder
if we ever stayed at the hotel. Yeah, we changed clothes and took a
shower. This was in November of 1984. I could have done without the
commercialism. I certainly didn't need to buy 25 "virgin sistas,
cheap". I was not my favorite island but not my least favorite island,
either, that designation is reserved for Jamaica.  We fell in love
with Barbados. Beautiful island, friendly inhabitants, wonderful
food!!, beautiful beaches. Just a very nice place to visit
