Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been around much. I've been very busy with five new kitties.
Yes that's right - NEW KITTIES! I'll only be keeping two of them though...
Firstly, earlier in the year my neighbour got two kittens - 1 boy, 1 girl,
littermates, and well to make a long story short, the two kittens are now
living with me. They are called Cricket (boy) and Gin Gin (girl). They are
about 10 months old now - and complete and utter HOOLIKITTENS! Cricket is
already 5.5kg and still growing. Gin Gin is smaller and petite, but climbs
around like a hooligan. Cricket is Mia's cat and she is teaching him to do
tricks. Gin Gin is a nervous, shy cat and she is my cat. (I have avoided
posting anything about them because my neighbour could find my posts on the
internet.)
Second, two days ago the local vet nurse called to ask if I know anyone who
can hand-raise three 3-day-old kittens. I know two people - one of them is
due to have a baby any day now. The other is getting married in a few days.
Sooo, it is left to me to hand-raise the babies. I am severely
sleep-deprived and absolutely EXHAUSTED from getting up every two hours to
feed them. I weighed them for the first time today - Ginger kitten is 75g,
White kitten is 75g, Calico kitten is 60g. They are eating more than they
were two days ago. I gave them a bath today and now they smell as lovely as
they look. This is the first time I am hand-raising, so wish me luck!
Anyway, I promise to organise pictures of the new ones really soon - all
FIVE of them!
Purrs to all,
Flippy in Melbourne, Australia.

Wow, good for you, Flippy! Sounds like you have your hands full.
Sending lots of support and purrs and some virtual sleep ... please send
piccies link when you can.
Also, major congrats on winning the cat yawn contest! I loved Tiffany's
photo and immediately forwarded it on to a few cat-loving friends for them
to enjoy, too.
regards!

Ooh, congratulations on the new family members. Are you sure you'll be
able to give up the three smaller ones? ;) I'm guessing Ginger and white
are boys and Calico is obviously a girl. She does sound a bit too small
compared to the boys, though. Good luck with the feeding. That's a tough
job you've taken on.

In addition to luck I wish you nerves of steel. The really tiny ones scare
the living daylights out of me. You always feel like they aren't going to
get enough or the right thing to eat, or that you will drown them while
feeding them etc.
The reward is from two weeks to seven weeks they are the most fun and the
most entertaining thing on earth. A special privilege and pleasure to those
who devote so much time and energy to them.

Awww, Flippy, they sound adorable. In the long run they will be so
worth it and you know you didn't have a choice in whether you wanted
another cat or not. Can't wait to see the pictures. Congratulations
on the Best Yawn award too. I liked the webpage you made to announce
the win. What kind of tricks is Mia teaching Cricket?

Good on you Flippy and Mia. Those kitties couldn't be in better
hands and are going to be a credit to you both. Good luck with the
bitties, I hope they become charming little hoolikittens too and that
you will find bare families worthy of them.

G'Day from England Flippy!
Yes it is day with 3 babies to feed you must need someone to tell you whether
it is day or night but I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job! And Cricket and
Gin Gin are very happy to have you as slaves

Wow, you certainly have your hands full!!!
I have read on numerous occasions about people hand raising kittens who
are only a few days old. All I can say is that I doubt if I could do it.
I would be scared to death, every second, that I would do something
horribly wrong.
I'm sure for those who have done it several times it becomes somewhat
routine, but the idea of handling, feeding, etc. kittens (3 of them!!!)
who are only a few days old scares the bejesus out of me!
And of course, assuming I managed to successfully raise them, I would
never, ever, be able to part with them.
Congratulations on your new 'adoptions': Cricket and Gin-gin.
I hope everything goes well with the tiny bitties!
Looking forward to pictures, when you have the time and energy!

Thank you everyone, for welcoming my two new kittens, Cricket and Gin Gin.
Thanks also for your kind words of encouragement about the little bitties.
The kittens have been well, until today. Now two of them are lethargic and
not wanting to eat. Mia and I are doing the best we can to keep them warm
but not too hot, feed enough but not too much, burping and helping them to
eliminate. It is physically and mentally exhausting and I am severely
sleep-deprived. I just hope that they are strong enough to make it. I will
keep you posted.
Purrs to all,

Not to be depressing but I've heard kittens can get ill and go downhill very
quickly; you might need to take them to a vet. Purrs for them and for you
and Mia.

Awwww, that is great! And bless you, Flippy, for handraising those
little ones. I don't know that I could do that. Congrats and purrs and
meows on the new additions!
