Okay, I did post and sort of de-lurk before... but then my computer died
and I was forced off of Usenet for a while. The cats were very pleased
that I was no longer paying attention to this strange glowing box rather
than them. They weren't so pleased that I shifted my attention to books,
but, well, books do seem to make terribly comfortable nap spots,
especially when meowmie is trying to study for her Very Important Test
tomorrow. *ahem* Anyway, I'm back, along with whichever kitty is helping
me type at the moment.

The kitties: Fevs and Wuz.
Fevs is a grey (with a few very light tabby markings) DSH with a darling
heart-shaped nose, his own kitty entertainment center (Meowmie calls it a
"fish tank"), and a tendancy to drool when happy.
Wuz is a grey (solid) DLH with another darling heart-shaped nose, is
perfectly dignified except for when he thinks you're not watching, and is
currently demanding meowmie's attention.
They're both rather large (not overweight), spoiled kitties, from the
same litter. They also both sport fabulous SoftPaws, the little divas
that they are.

On a side note, this cat slave could use a little help from other slaves
out there. I'm trying to get myself into the right mindset for a psych
paper that I'm writing on animal-assisted therapy, and it's a bit of a
struggle to get there. So, any tales of experience with animal-assisted
therapy would be greatly appreciated. I'll even make an attempt to
decypher my own handwriting and post the completed paper if enough people
want me to. :)

Fevs is wanting my attention now, and I can't type with my nose just yet,
so I must be off!

Welcome back, Maeve! RIP your old computer, and hope you can stick around.
Your research sounds really interesting. I did an interview once to write a
story about dogs being trained to detect cancer. It was amazing, one of my most
enjoyable projects.

Welcome Maeve, Fevs and Wuz.

I personally would love to read your completed paper.  And I do have
one cat assisted therapy story for you, however, it wasn't me
personally who experienced it - it was my husband.

DH had his gall-bladder removed a couple of summers ago.  It was an
'out-patient' operation, so I got to bring him home the same day,
however, he was really out of it.

I got him into bed, and immediately, Louie (the second love of my
life) took over.  He pretty much stayed right there next to DH,
generously bestowing healing purrs over him until he was well enough
to get out of bed and start moving around the house.

To this day, Louie is still in love with DH, and does this little
snarling purry noise thing that he'll only do for DH.  I'm extremely
jealous.

Welcome (back) Maeve. Bridget recently wrote a long post about her
service cats, but maybe that wasn't the sort of thing you were looking
for for your paper. Purrs that your research goes well, and I'd be
interested in reading it when you are done.

Glad to hear you've been able to rejoin us!  Two years ago, I was in
the hospital for about five weeks and one of the highlights of each
week was a visit from the animal therapy folk.  A very nice lady
volunteer brought her well-trained golden retriever around to visit.
Getting to pet an animal had a salutary effect on my disposition at
least, and probably the same on my physical well-being also.

Wish I had more details, though I can tell you that the staff said
they liked the effect the dog had on the patients.  Naturally, I'd
rather have had a visit from a cat, but you can't have everything.

Regards and Purrs,
