Cold front zoomies

Last night the first cold front of the season blew through, dropping our
temperature by 30 F (16.6C) in less than 24 hours. This morning the cats
were zooming all over the house, bouncing off the walls and refusing to
go out to their enclosure. :)
Tonight I'm hoping to have more than the usual 3 cats in bed with us, we
may even leave the heater off to make the cats search for the best heat
source.
I love cold weater*.

* not that I know what real cold is like, to my it's cold when it gets
below 60 F (15C). :)

LOL. You just knew I would have to reply to this, didn't you? It's been
going down to 0 C (32 F) during the nights here. It's getting so I don't
want to keep the door to the enclosure open all the time, because it's
right by my bed and the bed is ice cold when I want to go to bed if the
door has been open all evening.

But Miranda wants to go outside all the time, and she wants the door to
be open all the time. We're negotiating this, as we do each autumn. She
has to learn that it can't be open all the time in winter.

It's funny that Caliban, who has a much longer and thicker fur, gets
cold really fast and only stays outside for a few minutes at a time.

And yes, the zoomies are spectacular. I'm waiting to catch Miranda's
death plunge from one cat tree to the other (some 2 metres/ 6 feet) on
video, but I haven't managed yet.

And you folks are just getting started, aren't you? :)

Even I can tolerate 32 F, and I've gone all wussy from living in California
for 15+ years. Soon you will be able to brag about much colder temperatures :)

I'm wondering, would it be possible to install a pet door between the
indoors and the enclosure? Pet doors can be locked, so once you bring her
in for the night, you'd still be able to keep her inside. But during the
day when she's coming and going, you wouldn't have to either leave the
door open all day and then freeze your butt off when you climb in bed,
or keep having to go to the door to let her in and out all day.

Just a thought... but you rent, don't you? So maybe it's not feasible.

Yeah, maybe. Though last winter was very warm, and we hardly had any
snow, eiher. we'll see what it's like this year.

Yes, I rent. Can't cut holes in the doors. They are double glass doors,
so I don't know how that work, anyway. I mean double as in an inner and
an outer door, not two doors side by side.

60F here is ideal for Spring and Fall weather. Cold is the single digits
and hot ism 95+ MLB

Yup. I wake up with my girls on the bed with me. =o) Of course,
Francesca likes to sit ON my hip and remind me of Kitty Breakfast
time. Sometimes, I even wake up with Nina under the comforter. Don't
know how she manages to get under there without waking me up.

Yay! Someone I can justifiably sneer "You call that COLD?" at!

Our winters in New York City are usually bad enough-- but have been pretty
mild lately, giving friends from upstate, Boston, Chicago, Colorado,
Michigan, Minnesota and Montana the chance to snort "You call that COLD?" at
me pretty constantly. ;)

Hey, I'd
never snort at you....I think of you as my cyber "Carrie" of NYC tv
series;
you seem to lead just as interesting life as Carrie and you travel a
lot to cool places.
My pals from NY tell me your winters can be very nasty, with all the
cold and little of
the white stuff that makes the news media here chortle, "Our ski
resorts are really
booming now" as this former Floridian huddles indoors, with my feline
comforters
glommed onto me like tumors, LOL....anyone who wants cold can thank CO
or maybe
mlbringgs who I believe is in Utah somewhere sending the stuff here,
LOL.
Bottom line: it's all in your outlook and relative, right? NYC seems
to have a lot more
interesting things to offer than outdoor sports, which is their big
gun here...it's all they
got Nice place to visit, CO, but hard for Miamians to get used to on
year-round basis.

I finally had to turn the furnace on at night but still have
to turn it off during the day. We get 80 degrees F with daylight
hours and go down to 45 degrees F at night. Crazy weather.
Lily loves the fact that she can burrow into the comforter while
the house is still cold from nighttime.

It was probably in the high 30's (farenheit) last night. Persia zoomed
around for a bit last night then snuggled next to me as I read, then slept.
She's a nice warm soft cat :) This morning she tapped me on my nose (extra
early!). I fed her, cleaned out her litter box and her cat fountain. Then
we curled back up under a knitted blanket and she purred and purred. She
likes this time of year. So do I. I love the crispness in the air. The
rain hasn't been all that pleasant, but we needed it.
