Another Archer Update

I just got off the phone with Dr. French.  He said that Archer is putting
weight on his leg, and the area of the break looks pretty strong, so they're
not going to put another cast on Archer's leg because of the flayed skin.
I'll still have to keep him confined for another 2 weeks (I told Dr. French
that he jumps down from the top of his litter box inside the dog kennel as
well as jumping down when he climbs the inside of the kennel, but Dr. French
said the leg should be OK for that small an impact).

I'm going to pick Archer up after work today and take my baby home!

*YAAAAAAAAAY!!!*   That's the "goodest" news!  We're so happy for Archer
and for you.  Give the little guy a gentle hug for me.  Hugs for you all.

Great news! And only 2 weeks more in the kennel (Can your nerves stand it?
The end is in sight- just keep telling yourself that)

He'll be glad to get home as well!

Excellent news!

Out of curiosity, what are they doing about getting skin over the
places where there's no skin at all? (I read your original update to
say that there were places where there was just bone and no "meat")

No, that's a misunderstanding - they said there was no "skin" (I'm thinking
as in when you get a bad blister from shoes rubbing and it ends up taking
off a few layers of skin).

Ben went and picked him up already (he just went into work late so he
could).  He said it doesn't look as bad as the vet described it, and they
gave him Silvadine to put on the wound twice a day.  Silvadine is an amazing
ointment that they use for serious burns - it both soothes the pain and
helps the skin regrow over the wound (after Ben had already paid for it -
it's pricey - I told him that we still had some at home from when Bandit was
burned so badly at the old vet's).

Oh well, this has been another $165 tacked on to the price tag for Archer's
clumsiness (he's getting close to my record for medical bills due to
klutzy-ness! ;>).

Oh, I'm very glad I can't read because the reality is *much* better
than I was thinking.  >^.^<

Hooray for Archer. It sounds like the broken bone is doing well.

Awww... I was thinking about him today, one of the feral cats that live
at my work site looks just like Archer.

Sweet!!

I was thinking maybe you could put double sided tape on top of the
litter box and wherever you didn't want him to climb?

I wouldn't be concerned about Archer 'jumping' from his litter box, but
the kennel/cage is pretty *tall*.

I am concerned that the 2-3 foot drop from the top of the kennel/cage on
Archer's half healed break might be enough to break it again.

Purrs that Archer takes it easy while the leg finishes healing.

Yay!  Now the fun begins all over again.  Praying and purring he gets some
of the ants out of his pants and relaxes long enough to heal.

We continue to send healing purrs and best wishes for Archer,
