well, I've broke down and gone high speed - via a wireless modem. As
long as I was doing that, I upgraded my newsreader from the free Forte
Agent version 1 whatever to the newest version 4.2. I imagine there
will be a learning to catch up on all the new bells and whistles. One
thing I've already noticed, and I'm sure you all will apprecuate is
this version has a spell check - we'll see if it catches my mistakes
in this message.

A 3 month trial subscription to Agent's newsgroup server came with $29
bucks I forked over for the upgrade. Now I just have to figure out how
close I can come to using the 10 gigs a month they allow ;-) After the
three months it's going to run $2.95 a month.) BTW, if anyone is
interested, they offer a 1 month trial subscription those who not
buying thier newsreader.  http://www.forteinc.com/apn/index.php

I just finished installing it, and found messages on rpca going back
to dec of 05, and alt.binaries.pictures.animals to mid may of this
year. No, that doesn't mean I'm going to go back and try to read
everything I've missed since my old server started messing up last
year. I'll have enough just trying to read the 1300+ seince the first
of the month.

'nuf of that 'puter talk, now for the really importent stuff -
kitties! Nothing new with Sammy and Spot. I can't really tell if LB is
improving or now. Just from watching her around the apartment, you'd
never guess she couldn't walk a few weeks ago. That isn't to say she's
back to where she was before her episode. She still can't jump from
thje floor to the bed. She makes it up there OK, but when she jumps
she lands on the edge and ends up climbing the rest of the way. I'm
thinking I may just take off the legs and set the box spring on the
fall. Hey, it may not look right, but anything that makes LB happy is
a good thing in my book.

this has gone on long enough - now it's time to see if this new
program will do the spell check and send this off, or if I need to
tweak it some more.

Hi Steve -

How about a small set of steps, or a box to give LB a little
help?  Might be that she just lost some coordination during her
illness?  Might also be easier than taking the legs off the bed..:)
I have a small set of closet steps sitting next to the bed that I
ought to get rid of, just so Katie *will* jump.....she needs all the
exercise she can get...;)

Glad LB is doing better!

Excellent idea!  They make carpeted "pet steps" for this purpose.  I can't
imagine it would be difficult to build something like that, either, then
cover it with some carpet remnants which can usually be purchased
inexpensively.

Me, too :)

Thanks for the replies. First message posted alright, but I learned
you have to click on the dictionary to get the spell check to work. In
the Netscape mail that I've been using I skip that step, you click on
send and it automatically checks spelling and scan for virii.

As for the suggestions to build LB a stairway or ramp, I  don't know.
The head of the bed is against the wall. On one side, closest to the
window, is multi-level cat toy which is in high demand at night, since
they can each have a level to sleep on and watch out the window. The
other side is several of those kitty cubes hooked together - a very
popular toy, and there's just barely enough room for me to walk to the
bed. And the foot of the bed only leaves a couple inches to spare when
the closet door is opened. So, I'll probably end up taking off the
legs to the bed. It's a pretty high bed now, with one of those extra
thick mattresses.

Maybe you can get one of those ramps they sell for "mature" cats and
dogs? :)

Anyhow, purrs on the way.

More than half the people I know have ther box springs and such straight on
the floor.  No cats to drag out from under and no chance to use for
unnecessary storage and NO DUSTING!!
