Last night was horrific. I was walking Cara in the local park when she
got hit by a cyclist not looking where he was going. She rolled under
the bike, and ran off yelping and hurt. I couldn't find her anywhere,
so contacted the police, dog warden, RSPCA and the local vets in flood
of tears and reported her missing.
Then joggers running through the park told me they'd seen a border
collie, covered in blood running along the main road a mile away. The
main road in question is the main artery road through Cardiff and 4
lanes wide. I went up there. No sign of her.
I was looking for her for 5 1/2 hours. In between, I had 1/2 the dog
walkers in the park looking, the road workers on the main road
looking, neighbours came out to search, and I was, quite
understandably frantic. Eventually, at 10.30pm I went back to the park
to see if she'd appear when it had all gone quiet and to speak to my
friend who is the park warden and lives in the park.
I got a phone call, and it was a man who had found Cara 4 1/2 miles
away from where she ran off!! He agreed to meet me at the vet with
her. She fortunately was OK, apart from having 6 stiches in a wound in
her head, and being bruised and sore. To get to where he found her,
she had crossed 4 main roads, a railway line and gone through 3 parks.
She was about 1/2 mile from my grans house, so we think she was trying
to head there as it somewhere she walks to from the park.
Last night restored my faith in human nature. So many *kind* people
helped me, from the police, to the dog warden, to the road workers
(who ran when i was in the vet to see if she had been found yet) to an
old man called Jimmy with a Border terrier who spent 4 hours looking
with me.
Please can everyone who helped have some good karma purrs so that
their kindness comes back on them 10 fold? because thanks to them, I
have my dog back safe and well.
Thanks

{{{{{{{{{{Helen}}}}}}}}}} What a horrific day! I can only imagine how
frantic you were when you heard she'd been spotted "covered in blood" and
then not to have found her for hours yet!! I'm just *SO* glad she wasn't
hurt worse. Thank Bast for the kindness of friends and strangers in helping
you find your precious fur-baby again. Mega purrs for her healing and for
both your and her fraught nerves!

I know what you mean. Just when you think humanity can't sink any lower
a bunch of people pull a stunt like this. We ARE an amazing species.
The things we could do if we would just stay in _this_ mode. My thoughts
will be with all these kind people but I suspect trying to help was its
own reward for them. I have told many people there is no greater
compliment than to ask someone for help so in an odd way you have,
likely, enriched all those people. Oh well, enough philosophy for one
post. So glad Cara was OK, it must have been very frightening for her.

Lots of purrs and good thoughts and wishes for all involved in Cara's
rescue. I hope that you never have to go through this kind of thing
again.

I'm starting to learn that days like yours come with the territory when you
love pets and children.
It does appears Cara was heading home, and also that she has her very own
guardian angel that got her as far as she did. Amazing that she headed
there when you have been hers for a relatively short time.
Molly put us through a mini panic this morning. She didn't come in last
night, which is becoming the norm for her. But she wasn't at the door this
morning either. She is curled up on a chair behind me sleeping now. She
only waited long enough for us to mentally go through all the awful things
that might have happened. And to review all the hunt for the cat/dog
procedures.
She came in dirtier than normal and more skittish than normal, so at least
this time it was a bit more than a bastard cat trick.

I'm glad it turned out so well and we will gladly send purrs for the
helpful people. It is amazing how many real neighbors we have, some
don't even live nearby. .
And boy did she cover some ground.

Yikes! I'm sorry you had such a scare, Helen. I'm glad to know Cara
will ultimately be okay, and was not hurt even worse in her frightened
wanderings. Poor thing!
1 order of 10 fold good karma and multiple benevolent purrs to all the
kindly souls who helped you hunt for her.

Wow, Helen, that is every pet lover's nightmare! I'm so glad yours

similar situation.

So very sorry to hear that you had such a scare, but very thankful for
the good people who helped you find your Cara. Losing a pet outdoors
is nearly equal to losing one of the children in a crowded mall. Both
have happened to me, and I surely don't want to ever go through
something like that again. Relax and feel better, and give lots of
love to your girl.
