Nanki-Poo and I could use some prayers

This morning Nanki-Poo was following me around.  He never let me get one
full step ahead of him.  Today was wash day.  He followed me into the
garage when I went out to put in the clothes to wash.  I figured it
would be okay, since he was sticking so close.  However, he saw the back
door and immediately went out into the back yard.  That was several
hours ago, and I haven't seen him since.  I hadn't shown him the cat
door yet, so I don't know if he could get in.  I put a dish of food in
the garage, and it hasn't been touched.  He might have been afraid to
come back into the garage while the washer and dryer were running, but
there's still no sign of him.  I did go to my movie, and since I got
home a few minutes ago, I've left the back door open a little, in hopes
that he'll come back and come in.

I don't think he'd deliberately run away.  He seemed really happy to be
here.  However, he might have gone too far in his explorations and
gotten lost.  I walked around the block before I went to my movie, and
looked when I came home.

All I can do is hope and pray he finds his way back.

There's a slight chance he got into the house without my seeing him and
is in one of his hiding places, but I doubt it.

The really weird thing is that since I first realized he wasn't in the
back yard, Lindy has gone around the house and yard, calling and acting
as though she's looking for him.  I have no idea whether she really is,
but that's what it seems like.

Thank you, Christina.  I was jus wandering around the house and yard for
the umpteenth time, crying and calling him, when something made me look
behind my bedroom drapes.  There he was, lying in the windowsill!  Now I
can breathe again.

Methinks Nanki-Poo and Odessa must have known each other in a past life,
because he's pulling one of her favorite b*st*rd cat tricks. (I just LOOOVE
that phrase now!)

Thanks, Barry.  He's sticking with me.  Sometimes he follows me around
like a dog.  No, that isn't right - he doesn't "heel"; he "toes".  He
plasters himself to my leg and tries to lead me.

I don't think I've seen you over here before, so welcome!  As a
cat-lover, I know you'll enjoy this group.

I was just about to write an article consoling you and reminding you
that cats can acclimate themselves to a home rather quickly when I
thought I'd better look to see is there was a follow-up.  Thank
goodness he's home.

Right.  Today I'm going to show him how to come *in* the cat door.
He'll figure out how to get out sooner or later, but I want to make sure
he can get in if he is out.  Then I won't worry about him so much.

I was a little confused at first to see another Nanki-Poo besides
David's.  I should try to keep up a little more. :)  He sounds like a
cutie.

I wish cats would always come when you call them!  Whether Betty comes
when called seems to depend on what state she's in.  She comes 0% of
the time when napping, about 50% of the time when she's in a favorite
meatloaf spot, and about 80% at other times.

I know what you mean about cats coming when you call them.  Skeeter (RB)
usually did, Lindy does sometimes.  Nanki-Poo (mine, that is) hasn't yet
responded to a call.  Okay, he probably doesn't know his name yet, but
he doesn't respond to "Kitty, kitty" either.

Henri RB always came when I whistled for him, wherever he was, and sometimes
I telepathed him home, could tell a story about that, Wilson can be one of
them B-----cats but he does come running when I call him
so I guess I can say, he can be good too    Jean.P.

Great news - I just logged on and so the lost message. Guess I'll just
cancel that message since it hasn't been sent yet.

Sammy used to play that game with me when she was a kitten until about
1 year old. She'd dart out the door, and I'd end up chasing her
around. More than once I lost track of her, head out to the truck for
a flashlight, only to find she was watching me hunt under the bushes
form the bedroom window.

Sammy insists she didn't send Nanki_poo any suggestions, but I'm not
so sure

Oh yes, the feline game of "watch the human search for me".  I have
gone through that on several occasions.  I have also done this and
eventually found that the cat was shut in a closet, or had slipped
outside, so it is just as well that you searched.

just got round to reading this Joy,althoughI think I remember sending purrs
when you first lost him,I laughed at where you found him,it does give you a
scare though, Wilson sleeps for hours in new places in bad weather, and
I get very scared because if he accidentally got outside he would never stop
running, as he is the original scaredy cat,I'd never see him again, he's
unsociable and can be quite naughty, but I love him heaps    Jean.P.

Harri Roadcat?  LOL!  Kitty Farmcat sends her regards to Harri Roadcat. It
can be important to have a surname, she says.

Purrs and prayers.  I know how upsetting this can be.  Remember when FSP
came to live with us and simply took off down the street.  He is
probably close by and you will need to start enquiring in ever
increasing circles.  The sooner the better I would say - someone will
have seen him.   Good Luck.

Yep, Tabitha insisted that Harri needed a middle name. Since I made the
final arrangments for the pickup from a truck stop in Peculiar, MO Nancy
thinks Harri's full name ought to me Harrier Peculiar Mahoney, but I'm
thinking "Roadcat" might be more appropriate than "Peculiar".

Excellent! Harri Roadcat is thrilled to hear that too. That seems to be
a favorite cat trick. At our place we've been tricked like that by both
Cleopatra and Tabitha.
