How spoiled can they be?

I am responsible for the near-complete spoilage of the Odessa-Doll and thus
hang my head in parental shame.

Her antibiotic course complete, we decided to break her back in with the
other kids carefully, making sure there was no stray pieces of kibble for her
to nab etc, for her pipes are still inflamed a bit and any irritation can get
the mucus factory working overtime. The vet counseled us to get her kitten
food and baby food in jars, and use Catmilk or that gravy stuff you cat get
at Petsmart to thin it a bit if need be; she suggested also try taking tiny
bits of food and actually spoonfeeding the Doll, if we had the patience. A
big problem has been that Odessa chows down faster than she can breathe, and
the esophagus and trachea battle for supremacy, furthering the inflammation.

I had patience, and time to spare. I got a little pink baby spoon from
Tarzhay, some assorted meat baby food, and tested it out. Let me tell you, I
had not seen such an appetite out of that hog in training since she got sick!
And what happens? Now she won’t eat the thinned-out stuff in her dish, and
she pitched a princess-fit when I had to stop this morning. You should have
seen her last night, putting her paws on my knees, craning up to lick bits of
baby food. My eyeteeth for a camera! Mama has created a monster. I don’t know
if I can wean her off the spoon. But if it keeps my Dolly from aspirating
nasties, I’ll do it as long as she likes.

Blessed be,
Baha

Awwww.... How sweet you are, Mama. She'd eat the thinned out stuff if
she _had_ to.. But if she's caught on that you will help her out,
she'll milk it for all it's worth for a while at least. I wish you had
a camera, too. Sounds so cute!

Next, you will putting the thinned out stuff in the jar and spoon feeding
that!  That is ok, we do what we have for sick people or sick cats.

LOL!! The pink baby spoon says it all. It's a thin line between spoiling
a kitty and creating a monster, and I think you've crossed it. :)

Oh, that's adorable. I know, I know - I don't have to deal with the
aftermath. I can just sit back and read about it. Now if only you had
photos, my Odessa-Doll enjoyment would be complete. She is indeed a
little princess. And she deserves to be treated like one! You're an A-1,
primo cat slave.

Joyce

PS - One question: how do you keep her from wandering over to the
kibble bowl left out for the other cats, when you're not around?

I'm afraid I have indeed! A green-eyed one at that.

Louie is getting one of those cheap disposable ones to take to the pharmacy
to develop. I'll get a picture if I have to spoon-feed all night.

The vet told us to schedule the other's mealtimes, feed separately, andremove
the dishes after a set time because Stosh and Brandy need a diet and exercise
program too.

Great! I will anticipate an adorable shot of the spoiled princess monster.

Oh, that works out well for everyone.

Ah yes.  Memories of my dad sitting on the floor in their kitchen, hand
feeding single bites of moistened kibble to their ancient dog.

There is really very little we won't do for them.
