We all think Weird Al is a hoot -- Alex likes "Everything You Know Is Wrong," Celeste and I like "You're Pitiful," and Byron just likes them all. Christine

I love the hip hop ones, too, though. I don't follow him closely enoug to know-- did he ever take on Prince? I would love that. ;)

My all-time fave is "You Don't Love Me Anymore." DS's is "I'm Calling In Sick Today". DH's is probably the paraody of "Achy Breaky Heart". DD took DS to see Weird Al in concert at the college. I think it was the high point of his whole high school years, even if was a date with his sister.

I always loved "Like a Surgeon," especially Al wriggling around a la Madonna on the gurney; then there was "Addicted to Spuds," "I Want a New Duck," "Dare to Be Stupid," "Fat." I think the masterpiece (??) is probably "Eat It," but I also love the "Money for Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies" video.
These days, I particularly love the hip hop stuff. ;)
Is it true that Prince would never approve a parody, and Al just respected that?: I think it's a shame. I think a Weird Al -Prince parody would be lethally funny. ;)

I think a Weird Al -Prince parody would be > lethally funny. ;) It would be awesome, but Al is a gentleman and won't go behind someone's back to use their material. We aren't the only ones who'd love to see Prince on the rack, but he's not quite stupid enough to give permission, just enough to do the music. Can you tell I'm not a Prince fan? I did like "When Doves Cry." But I thought most of his stuff was senseless garbage.
Do you know what my biggest problem with Weird Al is? After he makes a parody, the "real" version pales in comparison.. I still hear "Living on the edge" as "Living in the Fridge," for example. That boy is too smart for my own good.

I LOVE Prince, and that's why I want to see the parody. Most of the song parodies I love best (with a few exceptions), are of songs I really like. You're right, though-- most of the people who get parodied take it as a compliment-- didn't Chamillionaire put "White and Nerdy" on his website? I don't think Prince as being stupid-- I just don't think he has much of a sense of humor about himself. ;)

In making the video, Chamillionaire is supposed to have given Weird Al full cooperation. I get a kick out of one of the versions that gets incorporated wtih the final cut that features Donny Osmond dancing around Al and doing "nerdy" movements. I loved it. I'm glad that Donny Osmond has a great sense of humor, as it not only makes watching him fun, but shows his personality, IMHO, and makes him more of a whole person rather than a 2D cartoon figure. Am I making sense today? I'm having a bit of a rough day for some reason.

It was a blast! It ended with The Night Santa Went Crazy with "snow" falling on the audience and red search lights scanning the theater as WA is up on the stage with a running chain saw chasing elves and...oh, the humanity......!
