Puffy Persia

That neighbors cat was back on the patio again tonight.  I'd dozed off on
the couch and Persia apparently was gazing out the sliders in the bedroom.
Suddenly I heard this YOWL and she came dashing into the room and ran to the
window.  She was totally puffed up; tail bristled, fur standing on end.
When I got up to see, she ran back to the bedroom door and growled low in
her throat at the interloper.  I peeked out and there was the orange tabby
from across the street, staring calmly back at us.  I swear the cat does
this just to irritate Persia.  I flipped on the porch light and the cat took
off over the patio fence.  Persia was still in full bristle mode but she let
me comfort her (a little).  She was walking back and forth from the bedroom
to the living room window like a little sentry for about 10 minutes.  Then
she finally gave up and climbed up on the sofa with me.  Nap time!

I wish this woman would stop letting her cats run loose.  We live on a busy
street; it's just not right.  Another neighbor suggested she feeds strays
and lets them just breed indescriminately.  He said she feeds as many as 18
stray/ferals.  I haven't seen any sign of that, other than the small grey
tabby kitten that also showed up and hid in the monkey-grass on my patio.
But this orange tabby seems to like taunting Persia.  My poor girl.  She
gets very upset when she sees the interloper.

Maybe the orange tabby is looking for lerv. ;)

But OTOH, I am sure that cats do like to tease.

When I was last in England I stayed across from the entrance of a
lovely big parkland, which had a couple of columns of about six feet
on either side of the gate.  I would come out for a run at 6:30-7:00
AM, and I would find that the two family kitties had beaten me out
there, and were each perched atop a column.  This was around the time
when people would come out with their dogs, and I am sure that they
did this solely for the purpose of entertaining themselves by
displaying themselves just out of reach, and driving the poor doggies
wild.

And there is a very round black-and-white cat in the neighborhood who
likes to come sit on Stinky's porch and just look cheekily at him.
Stinky does the whole squirrel-tail thing, and starts stalking up and
down the house, yelling his head off.  I call the cat "Newman" after
Seinfeld's irritating neighbor. ;)

My Aries (RB) would do much the same: when we lived in London's
suburbs we had foxes breeding nearby and he enjoyed nothing more than
lounging on the garden shed & peering disdainfully down on members of
the fox family who happened by.

Where have you been to on your UK trips, may I ask.........ever
anywhere near Cornwall?

This is what killed Maggie.  She was our second feral tortie, and her
balance wasn't the greatest.  But her favorite pastime was walking the fence
tops to tease the neighborhood dogs.  It kept her happy for about five
years, but she fell at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Oh I am sorry.  Safety purrs for those cheeky dog teasers.

Many years ago, before I was born, my grandfather owned a black spaniel.  At
the bottom of his garden there was a wall, perhaps 6 feet high, and the
local cats used to sit on the top of it and tease the dog.  "Ner, ner, ner,
ner, ner, ner, you can't get me"
It infuriated the spaniel so much (and bear in mind that spaniels generally
don't kill) that he learnt to run up the wall and grab the cats and kill
them.
My grandfather was often digging holes in the dead of night.  This would be
in the 40's or 50's.  I guess poor old Mick was teased beyond his endurance.
I have a photograph of him, sitting next to my mother when she was quite
young. This might make it in the late 30's, when I think about it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel depressed. It was a memory that my
grandparents told me.   It was very different back then.  There was no
possibility at all to get cats neutered or spayed.

If you had a female cat, you would get litter after litter of kittens.  Some
people drowned all but one every time.

So let's thank whoever that it doesn't need to happen now.

Persia did a good job protecting her Mommy from the Evil Orange Stranger.
I'm very prowd of her.  Around here Lizzie does all the protecting, but I
help by being lookout sometimes, telling Lizzie when dere's a Stranger
around.  But we *all* missed Ping - but dat's because he was hiding in da
basement.  Now he's not so Strange anymore.  I think he's gonna be OK.

Persia's Mommy should be prowd of her for protecting her from alla Strangers
dat are out dere.

Persia says, "I hafta watch out for mommy because she doesn't know when
those Strangers are lurking around.  I do and I watch out for her.  I'm glad
Ping isn't such a stranger anymore.  He hid from you good inna basement!

Mommy ordered more of my special crunchy food.  I really like dat crunchy
food.  Mommy says dat is a good thing because da crunchies are expensive and
good for me.  I don't know about good for me, but I like 'em."

Mommy lit a fire in da fire place.  I wanted out in my kitty walk and she
let me out dere but it was COLD!  It reminded me of being lost OUTSIDE and I
didn't like it so she let me back in."

So sayeth Persia.
