After running non-stop for three weeks on a bunch of long runs, I was
pretty tired out by the time Harri's humans managed to meet up with me.
However, my schedule allowed me to do a 34-hour reset - I took a day and
a half off. So Harri got to spend her first day and a half sitting in
one place, without things moving around or loud noises, getting to know
me and her environment and her new toys.
The load we're on now required that I move closer to the shipper today.
We're picking up in Springfield, MO this evening and delivering in
Seattle and Tacoma on Monday and Tuesday. So we rolled from Oak Grove,
MO at 3:00 this morning. Very light traffic due to the early hour, but
unfortunately poor visibility as well to the rain. Harri started out
sitting on my lap, then took turns sitting on my lap, crawling up on to
my shoulders, perched on my left leg looking out the window, sitting on
the dash board, sitting on the passenger seat, or on the floor by the
food, water, and litter. The few times I got tense due to sharp curves
Harri was immediately in my lap purring up a storm.
After riding for a couple hours Harri decided that the passenger seat
was the best place to ride. That works well for me - I can see her, talk
to her, and reach her, but don't have to worry about an armful of kitten
getting in my way if I have to maneuver suddenly.
About half an hour before we got to the truck stop where we'll wait for
delivery time to get closer, Harri disappeared into the sleeper. Once I
got parked I looked in on her - she is under my pillows, taking a nap.
What a good little girl!
I also learned that she quite the little talker when there are things
going on. I love that!
Tonight we're going to try to make it as far as Souix Falls, IA.

I second what Jill said. Also maybe you should designate her your "truck kitty"
so that you have company on the road.

Yep, sounds like you have a trucker there. I think it would be neat to
have a cat/kitten willing to keep you company.

I'm glad you finally got her, and that she's adapted to the truck - and
to you - so well.
Purrs for many years of joint happiness for you and Harri.

I don't know yet. That's pretty much up to her. We'll get 3 days at home
at Thanksgiving, and that will give me chance to watch how she interacts
with the other kitties. Wherever she seems to have the most fun.
This morning was wild! We did a 5 minute walk the first day she was with
me, and a 5 minute walk the next day. Both times she ended up in my arms
for most of the walk as things were a little too scary to remain on the
ground. This morning, though, was different! We're at the rest area in
Mound City, MO. It's got probably 2 or 3 acres of greens, and I swear we
walked that entire greenspace! It was like a sailboat tacking into the
wind - we'd angle off this way, then make a 90 degree turn, then back to
the original direction. That walk lasted an hour! I kick myself for
leaving the digicam back in the truck.

What a purrfect little trucking companion she is! Do you think you will
take her along for other trips, too?

She sounds like a sweet little co-pilot! I'm so glad you found a way to get
her. Just goes to show that where there is a will there is always a way.
Blessed be,
