What is it with some people?! (Do not read if you are of a sensitive disposition)

I have many times mentioned Jim the Gardener (so called in my twisted
mind to distingush him from Jim my Brother) a long term drinking crony
and devoted slave of Benj and Little Molly (You might remember the
poor little kitten spent a few months being passed round but as soon
as she arrived at Jim's she had her forever home)

This man should be an RSPCA inspector- he's a lightening rod for
animal abusers! (He would never abuse an animal himself)

Ages ago I think I mentioned his "friend" who annoyed at night by the
wheel in a hamster cage seemed to think nothing of throwing the
occupant of the cage out of a window on the 13th floor

Well we were having a quiet pint in the local den of inquity and we
had this conversation

Jim: "I think I keep meeting weird people"

Me: "Thanks!!"

Jim: "Not you..I've been drinking in the "Rising Sun"

Me: "When did you have the time? You're always in here!"

Jim: "I have been in other pubs"

Me: "Only when Jools and Bill drag you down them"

Jim: "Anyway there's this guy in there, known him about 6 months ,
seemed okay to talk to then the other day"

Me: "What? He declared his undying love for you?"

Jim: "THAT I could deal with, he came up to me and said "You'll never
guess what I just did?" And I said "What?" and you'll never guess what
he did"

Me: "No go on tell me"

Jim: "He started laughing, He was making a cuppa and there was this
stray dog in his garden barking at him, so he said he poured boiling
water over the dog to shut it up he thought it was hilarious"

I just stared at him "What did you do?!"

"Got up and put my coat on and the guy said "What's wrong? It was only
a dog" and I informed him if I ever saw him again I would kill him and
the only reason I am not giving you a beating now is I don't ever want
to be at your low level but if I don't go now I may drag myself down
to it and frankly if I had been there you would have got boiling water
over your back to see how much you liked it...and I'm leaving out the
swearing"

Then he walked out of the pub and realised he had just been ready to
attack someone a foot or so taller and a lot bigger and frankly didn't
care. Trouble is he doesn't know where the guy lives or he would
report him

WHAT is it with people that they think doing something like that is
funny as I said to Jim "They wouldn't do it to a child....or maybe
they would"

So I am sking you on behalf of Jim who is not online whether there is
anyone he can report this guy to

[must snip this story]

Unfortunately, the part of the subject line that says "Do not read if
you are of a sensitive disposition" didn't appear in the index of posts
in my newsreader (because it was too long so that part got truncated),
and by the time I realized what was happening, I was well into the story
and couldn't make myself stop reading.

Ugh, I'd like to string that guy up myself.

Jim, on the other hand, is a keeper!

Wish I could advise you, but I'm on the wrong side of the pond, so
anything I would be able to do about it might not apply to you...

Purrs for that poor dog.

I've now amended the heading- sorry I didn't think of that

YOu answered you own question above - the RSPCA is *exactly* the right place
to report thebehaviour. Names & Dates would of course be helpful, but the
perputrator may already be known to them (they, sadly, often are).

He should definately tell the police, at least there would be a record if
nothing else, and if this sub-human came to their attention in future it may
make them take it more seriously.

Thanks Adrian and Yowie- I can pass this on.
I couldn't think where he could go but after reading this I thought of
Helen's success with the cat hater and thought if the RSPCA and the
Police know about this then if it happens again (and it will) then
they have a lead. Also occurs to me that if the dog wasn't a stray
(and you don't see too many round here) and the owner has reported the
matter that it could be the clue the police need to get the guy

I passed on what Yowie and Adrian said to Jim the Gardener and he
followed their advice and went to the police about the guy.

Anyway at first the guy on the desk didn't seem too intrested but then
when he checked his computer, he asked if Jim could wait as someone
would have to come from another station to talk to him so Jim did.
About ten minutes later another officer took him into a room and went
through the whole thing asking him anything he could remember, Jim
remembered that whilst he only knew the guy's first name he had said
the "Rising Sun" was his local so presumably he lived nearby and the
officer nodded to himself

At the end, he asked Jim if the matter came to court would he be okay
about being a witness? Jim said of course he'd be glad to and the
officer thanked him for coming in and said they would be in touch

I have a feeling the dog's owner has gone to the police about this and
perhaps with Jim's evidence they can nail the guy

That would be wonderful.  I suspect the guilty party is about to get all the
excitement in his life he can handle.

I hope they throw the book at him. Unfortunately he won't get the life
sentance he deserves. :-(

I know....slap on the wrist....fine...damages to the dogs owner for
vet bills....maybe community service...maybe banned from keeping an
animal (although I still wish someone would tell me how that works- do
they do random raids? "Sorry sir, we have found you in possession of
an illegal kitten")

The trouble is round here for some people routine cruelty to dogs
(Cats get out of the way better) seems almost acceptable a couple of
weeks ago I saw some lowlife complete with their children (who were
watching this and learning) kick a puppy for not coming when called
and when someone told them off, they got the reply "It's my f***ing
dog and I'll do what I like with it!"

OK, I know they can't pour boiling water on the guy like he deserves.  Here,
if  he were caught he'd get jail time.  At least six months and serve at
least ninety days.  More if he had any sort of record.

Probably more since it wasn't his dog so there are irate owners and a vet to
satisfy.  Also more as it was totally senseless cruelty.

And he'd be lucky to survive the sentence unscarred.

I would contact the police and they would know who to contact if they
are not the ones to contact.
Best wishes,
