(and anyone else that might be interested in WWII history)

Pam, are you watching Ken Burns' WWII documentary airing on PBS
entitled "The War"? You and Rob would enjoy it. Tonight was the second
night on Georgia PBS but it looks like we're getting a second viewing
on Atlanta PBS that begins on Thursday.  You might get a chance to see
it from the beginning as well.  I've missed the bombing of Pearl
Harbor and the Bataan Death March which I wanted to see so I'm going
to watch that on Thursday.  I'm a true sucker, I've bought the book to
read before each episode.  What makes this especially interesting is
the personal stories that are being interwoven into the documentary.
Ken Burns has also written and directed "Great Jazz" "Civil War" and
"Baseball" which were all excellent as well.

I'm not Pam but I watched part of the first episode last night. It was
really good. My PBS station, WGBH is playing it several times this
week. I'm DVRing it so that I can watch it at my own pace.

I planned on watching it, but totally spaced it out, then remembered
that we won't be home on Friday or Saturday (Cancer Survivor's
retreat) and would miss part of it anyway.  I'm hoping that they do
replay it, but don't see any signs of that happening.  North Carolina
PBS stinks, anyway, as they won't play anything that isn't oriented on
either British comedy or North Carolina itself.  I'm surpirsed that
they're playing this doccumentary, as it isn't focused on North
Carolina.

BTW one of my uncles died in a POW camp in the Philippeans during
WWII.  He was left behind when MacArthur retreated and was caught
while helping organize native resistance.  My dad was in the 25th
Infantry during WWII and fought in the Samoas, other uncles were in
Europe.  I'm a midlife baby.

Dave is named for an uncle who died in a Japanese POW camp

I'm named for ,my mum's brother, Leslie, who was shot down over France
in WW2. I am always grateful his name was Leslie as my gran made my
mum and dad promise that the first grandchild on her side of the
family ie me, would be called Lesley (or Leslie if I had been a boy).
My mums other brothers were Albert, George, Bert and Roger so if it
had been one of them I'd have been Albertina or Georgina or Bettina
or ? Rogerina (what is the female version of Roger?)

I've added it to the Tivo list I'm recording.  Its on lots of times on our
PBS so I can record it at 3am when it doesn't interfere with anything else.
It will be a welcome break from the horrors of the new TV season.

I never thought I'd get to be a narrow minded fuddy duddy in my old age.
But some of what passes for humor on TV lately is just plain gross.  Liked
it better back when some things were still "unmentionable"

They've been showing it twice each night here in West TN.  I'm interested,
given the fact that my father was in the south pacific during WWII.  He was
only 17 when he enlisted.  And Ken Burns is a wonderful documentarian.
