She was awfully unwell yesterday. She is eating soft raw minced beef
tonight, and yes, I know very well that beef is not good for a kitty with
kidney failure but like TED says there is no point trying to get a cat to
eat special kidney food if they won't and just let them eat what they will.
We did try the special food. I was hopeful as she loved it for about 2
weeks and after that no go.
I think we all have to prepare ourselves to lose her soon.
I am so unhappy, I love her and I know the end of her life is approaching so
very soon and there is nothing I can do about it.

I'm so very sorry, Christina. Nancy and I went through that with DD.
You're right, it's better that she eats whatever she likes, than ignore
the stuff that good for her.
We're thinking about both of you and Boyfie.

Purrs coming for KFC to bounch back. I agree with the decision to feed
her what she will eat over trying to force her to eat the special food.

Words can't express...I just wish I could give you a big, fat healing hug

Whatever happens, she will go to her "retirement" knowing she is well-loved,
and mightily so.
We're here, all of us...and I'm saying my prayers for you both, for the love
and strength you need.
Blessed be,

I know you can only be so prepared. And that you will treasure her for as
long as she is semi-ok.
Lots of purrs from our two that the rest of her life be gentle to you and to
her.

I'm so sad thinking about KFC. It seems like I've been reading stories
about her for as long as I can remember :-(
I hope she is in no pain, and that is reasonably comfortable.
IIRC, KFC had a pretty rough start to her life, so she is bucking the
odds by being such a senior citizen.
Small comfort, I know.
I just old Kenzie how lucky she is, and that there is a sick kitty who
needs some 'feel better' purrs.
Kenzie mrrped in agreement.

I'm so sorry, Tweed. We knew this day would come sooner rather than
later, but it is so hard anyway. I have a very purry snuggly Caliban in
my arms right now, and he is sending you his most comforting purrs. Mir

((((Tweed)))
It is the hardest time when we must accept their mortality and let
them go. KFC has had a long life, and she has had the good fortune to
be loved by you during that life. But I know, it's so hard to face
the thought that soon our beloved companions won't be there, any
longer.
Know that I'm with you in spirit. KFC will let you know when the time
comes, I'm sure of that. It all becomes clear. Still sad, still hard,
but you will know when she's ready to slip across the Bridge.

I'm so sorry. I *really* hope that isn't so, but at her age, it might be.
I've loved hearing stories about her grumpy personality, which I'm quite
sure has a lot to do with how she managed to get so old!
I agree that the most important thing now is that she be as comfortable
as she can be. I did suggest subq fluids, but if at this point you and
TED think that would just be uncomfortable and intrusive, then what's
the point? Better she lie in the sun and eat what she feels like eating.
Licky is purring hard for his darling KFC. The girls are providing an
impressive backup chorus.

I'm quite sure it is. She left her previous home (not a particularly good
one, but better than none) through choice to live feral in my garden. For
YEARS.
Cats can freely roam here so I thought she was just passing through in a
neighbourly way.
I could not have taken her in earlier than I did as I still had dogs some
would have killed her in an instant.
I hope I have managed to give her the home she always wanted. I'm sorry it
came so late in her life.
That such a tiny cat can decide to live feral and make a success of it until
she notices a vacancy, presents herself homeless at the door when she knows
the dogs are gone to RB, is truly amazing for me
Maybe nothing is amazing for Kitty Farmcat. She is wise.

Purrs for her peaceful and dignified "transition" in due time. And for her

there's no point doing anything other than spoil her rotten).

Except keep her as happy and comfortable as you can, which you have already
done so well. We are purring here that she stays that way as long as
possible. You have given this extraordinary little cat the best possible
late life.

I'm so sorry, Tweed. I know exactly what you're going through. Bandit was
17.5 when she went to the bridge, but just because they are senior citizens
and have lived a good long life, doesn't make it any easier (in fact, I
think it may be harder because we've had that much more time to fall in love
with them).

I do understand. Fritzie was only a couple of months away from his 19th
birthday, and I'd had him from a 2-month old kitten. It was harder than hell.
I didn't know about this group or other support sites, and this was the one
area that befuddled my psychiatrist (who came from a farm in India where a
cat was an employee, to keep mice out of the grain.) He didn't understand the
way a real cat slave would (or any other species of animal-person.) I think
you're right; Fritzie and I had been just a twosome for a very long time. I'd
had boyfriends (the Prophet Jeff among them) but only Jeff had a true love
for the cat. Fritzie and I were almightily close. The idea of the Bridge has
been a comfort to me since that evil December day, along with a verse of Sikh
scripture which says that the animals never forget their divine creator; and
a line from a lesser-known work of Lewis Carroll, "Sylvie and Bruno."
"Does GOD love hares?"
"...If He loves sinful Man, how much more must he love the animals, who
cannot sin!"
(pologies to Carroll-lovers for any mistake made; I don't have my copy at
work.)
We're continuing prayng for you Tweed, and purring.
Blessed be,
Baha
