We have a kid's gym in our back yard that was left by the previous owners
of the house. It's got 3 swings, a deck about 3 feet off the ground
surrounded with canvas walls and a canvas roof, and a slide down from the
deck. Ranger and Sammy love to run up the slide and hang out on the deck.
Yesterday I spent a fair bit of time out back, just enjoying the chance to
hang out with the kitties. Ranger was having fun on the gym, and jumped up
on the top rail of the canvas side wall. From there he stretched out as
long as he could and put his front paws on the horizontal pipe that
supports the swings. It looked like was in danger of falling so I went
over and stood near him. The kitties are used to that - I stand nearby so
they have a shoulder they can grab or brace against. He managed to get to
the horizontal pipe with no problem and poised there for a few moments.
That's quite a sight - a cat balanced perfectly on such a skinny support.
He then used my shoulders as a support while he turned around til he was
facing the deck and it's cover.
He then hopped from the horizontal pipe onto the canvas roof over the
deck. He thought was just the greatest thing! Here we was, 8 feet or so in
the air, with a sloping canvas surface that went another couple feet high.
He loved it! He climbed up to the very top, sniffed the tree branches he
could get closest to, looked at the birds flying by - it was great. He
tried walking down the other side, but soon figured out that walking down
a sloping canvas surface wasn't the easiest thing. His claws weren't
helping to brace him, so he tended to slide. Fortunately his slide would
stop 3 inches or so from the edge, when the slack in the canvas got taken
up by his weight.
He spent the better part of 15 minutes up on that canvas roof. I got some
photos of them, but I can't post them to abpa - neither of the servers I
have setup in my newsreader carries those groups. So for now, if you want
to see photos of Ranger the Roof Cat, you can see them at

Glad O.T. wasn't thee or, the tree would have been next. O.T. tries to walk
the shower bar but hasn't got it mastered...YET>

That's another one of Ranger's tricks. We've got sliding shower doors, so
the top bar is rectangular and about an inch wide. Every morning when I
shower he hops up there to keep me company.

Great pictures of Ranger. It looks like he is having so much fun. I wonder
what the old owners would think if they knew the gym set is being used by
Ranger and Sammy.

Wonderful! A kitty play house. Please keep it up for them. They
seem to love it so much.

When we were touring the house with the Realtor back in March, she found
it quite amusing when the first thing I said when I looked in the back
yard was "the kitties would love the gym!"
