For those of you who are new or missed the messages over the past 6 or
7 years (how long has it been?), we have an annual holiday card
exchange among members of rpca and the Catslaves Yahoo group. This is
one of the most enjoyable things I participate in over the holiday
season. Beginning about the first of December cards begin coming in,
slowly at first and then several a day for awhile and then they
trickle off again. The postal carrier has to wonder who I am to get
cards from all over the world and DH enjoys them as much as I do.
Sometimes they come with fur from other kitties and occasionally they
have confetti that falls out all over the place and you can't help but
laugh. Anyone that we know as a regular member can participate. You
can send me an email to gadragonfly at comcast dot net with your
mailing address and if I know you I will add you to the list. If I
don't recognize your name or nickname I'll ask the card roup if they
know you and if they are willing to share their mailing address.
We've never said no to anyone before but we are careful with you
address. I will not identify anyone here by their real name if we
don't already know it, and we all recognize that this is a public
forum and we might not know everyone that lurks here. No one has ever
compromised another person's identification. To date I have:
Marina, Bridget, Pam, Dan, Sam, Adrian, Helen, Suz, Yowie, Irulan,
Ann, Baha, Kreisleriana, and Christine
I would also like to move Jo to the Receive Only list if she will give
me permission
If I've missed anyone please remind me. I'll be sending out an email
this weekend to confirm email addresses. I'll let you know when I do
so that you'll know to look for it.

Sadly, right now...it appears I may have to be on the Receive Only List (I'm
now raising an nephew as well as helping take care of my Mother and
brother)...If anyone cares to send me a Xmas card...I'd gladly receive it...
If I can get some more work.... I'll be able to get out from under some of
these major expenses(Mother/Nephews med bills and hospital bills) I'll
gladly send cards then..."Knock Wood" that I will be able to...I can sure
use the joy they always have brought me.... :-) Liz

We'll put you on the receive list Liz. Taking care of family as well
as cats is time consuming and you deserve our support. Julie

Try 9 years Julie. Bridget, Sherry, and I each had the list for two
years and this is your third year of indulging your masocistic (I'm
sure I spelled that one wrong) tendencies by taking on our various
eccentricities. I bet I spelled that one wrong as well.
One of the years I had it, someone who has since left the group,
insisted on her and her husband's titles, their cats' names, and all
sorts of information being part of the address. It wouldn't have been
so bad, but not only were the titles long and redundent, but the cats'
names changed several times, if I recall correctly. It was a major
factor in me deciding that I couldn't do college and the list at the
same time. Jullie is a bigger glutton for punishment than I am.
Of course, the majority of the lists and mailings are a joy. I've
received cards from all over the world, one year there were over sixty
cards hanging on my wall. I've received pictures, confetti, fur, and
whiskers. The home made cards show both talent and ingenuity as well
as the good taste shown in the store bought ones. Better than 90%
have cats on them. Some are in foriegn languages with the sender
translating for us language impared. I value them all, and keep them
until the next year's batch comes out. I wish I had the room and
storage to keep all of the cards every year, but I don't. Whenever I
feel down and think that no one cares about me (YAY, a pity party!) I
pull out the shoe box that I store the cards in and go over them,
thinking about each person who has sent them to me and how special
they are. If you are relatively new to this group, you know that we
rarely fight in here or air our dirty linens. The cats are the main
and most important thing for us followed closely by our friendships
with each other. I am always astonished and thrilled by how different
our personalities are and yet how well we can all work together.

Count me in please! Our address is on the old list, but I'll email it
to you again. I'm planning to drastically cut back our Christmas
activities this year because I always get carried away, but I want to
keep RPCA. :)

I will email you with my new address.
I am going to have to be on receive-only this year. I don't remember
if I told everyone but we had to move for DP's job, and as a result I
had to leave my old job. I have JUST found a new one this past week!
but we incurred a lot of bills over the course of the move (and first
year medical residents do NOT make established doctor's wages). So,
this year I need a bit of a financial break, and won't be sending out
cards. (I'm going to cook up something to deliver online though!)

Fil,
Congratulations on the new job. You may be on the bottom of the heap
for wages and a decent schedule, but this is an excellent start.

I am actually ebtter than that Annie....Halifax was only giving me 4/5
of the pay that I am getting here, for doing MORE work. I work 9-5,
have a whole hour for lunch AND two breaks, PLUS this place will be
giving me benefits in 6 months after my training period is over.
The issue is that I was unemployed for a few months and this is the
time of year when bills come due (car insurance, home insurance, have
to recertify my car for provincial laws, new license plates, new
health cards, new cat licenses, change oil after the long drive), plus
I needed dental work and a bigger moving van. I'm going to be great
long-term, but short-term, it's tight, and I figure that if I stay on
budget, I'll be in a position to save money come February.
