Dot's cat tree pics

Takayuki - 14 Sep 2007 03:05 GMT Dot usually likes to have some elevation in her napping spots, so you'll find her on a shelf, or at least a chair. Or right now, on my lap with her cheek resting against my belly. :)
Dot doesn't hide anymore. She's even taken up Betty's old habit of standing guard at doorways. It's funny watching Buster keep running his head into the walls in an effort to stay as far away from Dot as possible as he tries to get past her. He's not usually timid around Dot, but I guess she looks especially fierce when she's on guard duty.
So now that Dot has free run of the living room, I thought I'd provide her with a perch there. I ordered from the same place that Jane used to get a tree for her Rita, and picked this one:
http://www.cozycatfurniture.com/cat_condos/catcondotree.html
I'm as impressed with them as Jane was. Their trees are relatively inexpensive, most have free shipping, and mine arrived on Wednesday after I had ordered it on Sunday. It's easy to assemble and take apart, everything being put together with large bolts that are secure and easy to screw by hand with an included hex wrench.
And the top perch has become a favorite napping spot:

You know, I don't think that cats actually need those steps. :)

Dot certainly is enjoying it!
Takayuki - 14 Sep 2007 18:22 GMT >Whoa! That is a TREE! You must take more pictures Tak. Dot certainly is >enjoying it! It's true I haven't been taking an awful lot of pictures - I get to feeling too "participative" to be a good cameraperson. Sort of like how many of my video shorts, particularly with Betty, end when I can't stand it anymore, and have to pick up the subject and hug them. :)

I agree, cats don't need the steps, except maybe very ancient cats.

They'd have to be pretty ancient, like maybe ones that were found in the pyramids by an archaeologist. :) I wish they also had a kit for an outdoor kitty enclosure.

Congrats on the New World Order in your home. :)

Exocat - 14 Sep 2007 10:23 GMT > Dot doesn't hide anymore. That's wonderful news! Amazing what time & a secure environment will do :)
The tree is magnificent, I hope they have many happy years playing on it (ideally together sometimes).

Amazing what time & a secure environment will do :) > >The tree is magnificent, I hope they have many happy years playing on it >(ideally together sometimes). They're aware that tree provides both vertical and horizontal ambush possibilities, so they're uncomfortable sharing it. Dot sometimes naps on the top, and Buster plays and does lookout one level down, but usually at separate times.

Everyone who sees mine is incredulous at the price and the quality. Rita climbs all over hers so enthusiastically that it actually rocks back and forth, and someday I expect it to come crashing down. She doesn't seem to care. She loves to climb into the house and sleep, too. I'm glad that Dot seems to like it, and maybe someday she'll even share it with Buster. It's certainly big enough!
You are definitely thoroughly owned by cats. Enjoy it.

They must be inexpensive because of the modular, almost lego-like designs, and the light weight faux fur and faux fleece fabrics that they use which are much less bulky than carpet (their highest end trees are carpeted). It's a good approach, and I'm very pleased with the tree. :)

I remembered the problem you reported with the size of the tree you got on eBay, so one thing I was aware of, and liked about the place I ordered from is their quoting the dimensions of the overall product and important parts in their descriptions.
Christina Websell - 14 Sep 2007 20:17 GMT > And the top perch has become a favorite napping spot: > > http://mywebpages.comcast.net/Takayuki9z/cattree.html Wow, what a fabulous cat tree and what a good cat daddy you are!
> You know, I don't think that cats actually need those steps. :) I think you're right. I heard a strange noise in my conservatory a while ago. Sort of a scraping metal type-noise. Now my conservatory (I use that word loosely..) is less of a garden room, more of a place where I keep my spare chest freezer, hand tools, drain cleaning kit/chimney sweeping brushes, spare chicken drinkers and a couple of cat beds for when the sunshine is pouring in. You get the picture. Boyfie's almost favourite place to sleep is on a folded blanket on top of said freezer. N calls it "Boyfriend's beloved freezer ;-)" Above the freezer, hanging on hooks against the house wall, my "puppy pen" is stored, against the time I may perhaps be able to have another puppy that needs to be kept out of mischief for a short time. I made it myself, 4 x 4 foot sq wood panels with wooden bars across covered by chicken wire, that join together at the sides with hooks top and bottom. I dread to think what such a thing would cost to buy. What is this leading to you are all saying and what was the noise?
It was Kitty FC, having jumped on to the freezer she was scaling up the puppy pen inch by inch using every claw she possessed to hold the wire to get to the ledge at the top that's there because there are four panels on top of each other. Like a climber on a rockface. And why would a such very ancient old lady want to do such a thing? Because at that particular moment the only place the sun was shining was on that little ledge..and that's where she wanted to be. When she got there she just turned round and looked at me from 8 feet up with such a smug expression and meatloafed there until the sun moved. She has done it several times since. My camera is at the ready with fully charged batteries but by the time I can get it out of the case, she's up there.
If KFC, at the age of twenty-whatever can scale like this, I'm sure there doesn't need to be a ladder up to any part of a cat tree like yours. I suspect the manufacturers include them to appeal to human sensibilities. Just in case they think their cats can't jump.

By the age of 19, my RB cat Tika did need a ramp to get herself into the bathtub, where she liked to lick drops of water from the leaky faucet. If they have severe arthritis, for example, it would probably be a lot harder. Certainly it would be impossible for them to do what Dame KFC can do!

If you saw her you would say she looks so frail she is about to die. This is not her idea. In 2003 when Nüle saw her she thought it doubtful she would last much longer. She eats well still despite her CRF diagnosis, so I hope I will have her for a while yet. She's a toughie.
