Can Odessa have a few more purrs?

A little over 2 weeks ago, we took Odessa in to have her teeth cleaned, and
it turned into a nightmare of emergency extractions the effects of which are
still hanging over our Dolly’s bitty head.

We had to take her to the emergency vet over the weekend because she had
developed a recurring, hacky cough every time she ate, especially if she
could get her lips on some crunchies; the vet said we could give her some
small kibble when the incisions healed. The emergency vet said what happened
was that the tube used to administer general anaesthesia irritated an airway
that is already small. She had yorked up something on the way that turned out
to be not food obstructing something, but a sizable cat booger. The
irritation is making mucus, food irritates more, and Odessa-doll spends a lot
of time clearing her throat. At least now it seems that way; a couple days
ago, she seemed to be putting her whole gut into it, literally. Not throwing
up everything…have you ever seen a person with a bad bronchial bug coughing
up deep-lodged, green ick? When I had it last year I was coughing so hard I
ripped the muscle right off the ribcage. Odessa is more fortunate here, for
the doctor did not find that kind of injury. She might have come close from
the sound of it. Odessa sounded like that a few days ago; now she sounds like
the chest-bug person at the tail end of it, with a lot of irritating ick at
the throat that just makes you want to say “ahem!” all the time. But I could
use a few amens instead for the Dolly. The emergency vet said it happens with
some regularity when you’ve got an animal with a small airway and a tube for
anaesthesia, this irritation and throat ick, and must run its course. I’m
reminded of the Prophet, who got mucus-y around his trache tube when he was
in the hospital back in July.

Please send a few spare Cat, Heal Thyself purrs for my Dolly. Please?

Blessed be,
Baha

Purrs from the Fairfax Fur Factory to Odessa to heal up quickly!

Good healing thoughts from the hoomin as well, who gets those sorts of
coughs once a year....not fun at all....

Purrs and best fishes-

As an update on our Little Doll, no news is good news.

Louie went home before class and found her having eaten can food which we
softened up more with a shot or so of chicken broth, and she was resting well
and breathing a little more easily. (Louie could use some purring too, I
think; he's trying to get back into grad school and is getting crap from all
sides: Need transcripts because undregrad grades not among thje best. Need
vaccination records. Need mother's maiden name. Need to know exactly how many
hairs are wrapped under turban.Need shoe size. Does UB ask all at once? Hell
no, they drop these horseapples one messy chunk at a time, and you have to
step in it every time. Problem with walking in crap is you carry it home.) He
said he woukld call if there were problems; no call. I called him, and our
Doll is feeling better.

The vet (the regular one) seems to take this as a matter of course;
apparently this irritation just happens, and she might not have gotten enough
anti-inflammatory the first time. He wants to see her next week to follow up,
and give more steroid if needed. So we'll end up with a Doll who has great
biceps.

Mama feels more relieved.

Incidentally, why do we call her Dolly? Odessa was the name from the shelter,
and is on her medical and adoption papers. The shelter people figured it was
a feminine form for her brother's name, Odyssee. But she reminded us from the
start of a delicate porcelain doll and still does. A friend discovered she
responds to a strong initial D-sound; Nancy has a habit of cutting off the
first syllable of kitty names, as a sort of pet name for the pet, and started
calling her 'Dessa. The Odessa-Doll responds to all three, with a noticeable
preference for Dolly. Like me being Liz and Betty i guess.

I'm so glad she's resting easy, my little girl!

Blessed be,
Baha,
thankful for the Most Glorious Sound of Purr

I'm glad to hear that, too. We are purring for her to continue to feel
better.
