Please can Miss Lily Whiskers have some serious purrs? She injured her
tail last night and has to have the tip amputated today. We've just
got back from TED and it appears to be a degloving injury where she
got the tail caught. She has to have an anaesthetic, and I'm worried
about that too as she ate her breakfast and so has to wait until later
for surgery. :(

Actually, I'm just worried sick about my baby. She's being treated by
a locum vet as her usual vet is away on holiday (da*n him! ;o)) and
although the locum seems extremely nice and very competent, he's not
our normal TED Michael.

Please can she have some good outcome purrs?

Thanks

Purrs being sent for Miss Lily Whiskers. I'm sure she will recover
well, but it is a worry all the same. She sure manages to get herself
in some pickles!

Yes, I guess I should be used to those pickles by now! But every time
I worry!

Lots of purrs for a good outcome.  Take a deep breath and visualize
a healthy, happy Miss Lily Whiskers.

Many purrs form the Fairfax Fur Factory and feral (who at least
purrs when eating) that Miss Lily comes through everything fine!
And more calming purrs for you, Helen.  You've had a bit of a run
with Cara and now Miss Lily.  Purrs that your locum TED is as good
as your regular, and that everything and everyone come out well.

Purrs on the way for Miss Lily Whiskers, of course!  (I have no idea what a
degloving injury is.)  Soothing purrs for you as well, Helen.

Basically, all the skin has come off the end of her tail and left the
bone exposed, so they need to remove the exposed bone so that there is
a flap of skin and then stitch up the remaining skin over the exposed
end. I reckon that she'll lose at least 1inch of her tail if not
more. :((

Oh OUCH!  Purrs of course still on the way for both of you!  I know you're
worried about the anesthetic but I'm sure she will be fine.

We have so many purrs crossing the pond, we're likely to cause high surf.

Oh, no! Emergency purrs sent right away. Poor Lily! What's a degloving
injury?

She will be OK. It's not vital-organ surgery. They will wait until she
has digested her breakfast so it's safe to put her under. But I can
still understand your anxiety about it - I would feel the same way! Extra
purrs for her to get through everything OK and emerge with nothing but
a shorter tail.

The skin was pulled off the end of the tail.  The only thing to do is
to amputate the end of the tail and make a clean closure of the wound.
It would never heal otherwise.  I had a cat that had the tip of its
tail mangled somehow and that is what we had to do.  He healed up
fine.
