BEV, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?????

Although, I'll have you know I hit 5000 a few times!

Don't you just love that satisfying popping sound when a whole bunch
of them pop at once?

No, but you might try "Snood"-

I've been playing Snood on an off for several years, so when I saw
"Bubbles", I recognized it as very similar to Snood.

I downloaded Snood, and now have been playing *that* all day.  Those

'Ya know, I hadn't noticed, but you're right.... they do look like
Cheney.   The fact that the faces  move and well, make faces at  you
*is* a bit disturbing until you get used to it.

Yowie, I play Bubbles off line all the time although you need to re-load
when you reboot.  Yes, I am still hooked.   I have only finished the

You know, if the authorities get called because I'm neglecting Cary, I'm
gonna point to your message and say "see, its *her* fault!"

Stayed up *way* past my bedtime (usually 9:30, went to bed at 11pm, feel
like crap now), to get a score of 49K, and *still* didn't finish the game.
Joel is now addicted too, mutter mutter.

I swear, its that popping sound that makes the game.

I think a dissertation on the properties of addiction could be written based
on this game.

I took a break and tried to go beck to FreeCell and it isn't as satisfying
anymore.

Bubbles is as hard or easy as you want it to be, plus it has the same feel
as popping bubblewrap obsevively.

Exactly!  I've been hooked for the last few days and have hardly
gotten anything done.  I've finished the game twice but I'm still
hooked.  I sent the link to Dennis who's working in Burma and pretty
bored.  He wrote me a tiny little email saying he's so hooked on the
game now.  I guess I shouldn't have sent it to him because now I won't
be getting many emails from him anymore :-(  D*mn you, catpeople!!!

Does anyone remember the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode where
everyone got hooked on a game? It looked like a set of eye goggles which
people wore on their heads, and they played the game with their eyes and/
or minds. Whenever they were able to get one object to pass through another
object, it caused a rush of pleasure to go through the player's body.
There were many scenes of people walking around the ship wearing these
things and moaning. :) Everyone was susceptible except Data, and he had
been decommissioned for suspicious reasons.

In the end, it turned out that the game was really a form of subliminal
mind control, and everyone, including the captain, was being programmed
to accept an alien takeover of the ship. But one of the crew members
was suspicious from the start, so avoided playing the game. He managed
to put Data back online and they saved the day.

Do you think "Bubbels" is a creation of the Feline Mothership? :)

>Do you think "Bubbels" is a creation of the Feline Mothership? :)

I've read that Tetris is a Russian conspiracy, although it was during
the Cold War that I read that. :)

I used to play a game that looks almost exactly like this on this
link:

http://absolutist.com/online/bubbles/

It requires free registration to play, but I think the gameplay goes
smoother on this version because the bubbles tend to "slide" past each
other more, which allows you to fire bubbles into deep gaps more
easily.

I guess I don't get it. How do you know which bubbles to shoot at?

Bob

I seem to have finished the game...  at some point (over 40k points) I
got a message that I couldn't read, something about 5 minutes or
something. Then I got a screen of all green and yellow bubbles and I
started popping away. By this point, when you miss popping 3 times in a
row (I think that's right) there were 6 new rows appearing. Anyhow, I
managed to surpass de 50k mark and now I have a headache... :(

Victor, who is thankful the tools are down and there's nothing for him
to do right now... :)

We have to find someone to translate the instructions to this thing if there
are any.

I somehow made it to 22,000 one time last night, but think I just had a
lucky setup to start with.  Three of the same color touching breaks bubbles.
Any bubbles separated from the rest also break.  But that's all I've figured
out as far as rules.

Yeah, and I can't figure out what causes the bubbles to suddenly start
*advancing* toward the bottom! Seems to happen if you miss a potential
popping target too many times in a row. Once they start advancing, it's
only a matter of time before it's "Game Over".

From what I gather, they add bubble rows if you don't pop several times
in a row. Also, as the game gets more advanced, more rows are added at
the same time. It gets pretty insane...

You have to watch someone else play to understand whats going on... which is
relaly hard because when Joel was playing, first I wanted to show him where
the best spot to shoot was, and then I just wanted to shove him out of his
chair and play myself. its worse than watching someone try to thread a
needle!

Anyway, to the top right of the screen, there are 5 green lights. When you
fire a bubble that doesn't pop anything, a cross appears instead of a green
light. Once you accrue 5 crosses, the next time you fire a bubble that
doesn't pop something, you get naother line of bubbles at the top of the
screen, and now you only have *4* green lights, so you can only fire 4 bad
bubbles before another line appears, and then you have *3* green lights.
Once you get down to 0, you get 5 green lights again, but this time, 2 lines
come down at a time, if you clear them again, 3 lines appear at a time,e tc
etc etc.

What get me, though, is when  you get another line of bubbles, they
rearrange themselves a bit, so if you are going to quickly, you might fire a
bubble into s apot that *would* have popped, except that they are now
different and you get a cross instead. If I knew the rules of the
rearrangement, I'd probably do better, still 47K isn't half bad.

34,900 and something tonight.  I actually thought I could get rid of all the
bubbles at one point, only had three left.  I was only playing orange and
yellow then.  I'd got rid of all the other colours.  I was just about to zap
the last orange, and it ruddy well came up with a big screen of orange and
yellows.  LOL.  I don't think it's possible to win this game.  I love it,

Congratulations!  I'll never get near that.  I need to stop playing it.  I'm
getting nothing done.  I break off for a while then go back to the computer
saying to myself "just one more game and then I'll..do whatever"  It's
stopped making the satisfying noise now when you pop the bubbles, so maybe
that will help me to give it up.

I had already found that out, Victor, boast, boast, lol.   I have now
finished the game - score 73,200 however I can't decipher the words at
the finish.   Do you know what they mean?   I suspect they say something
like well done, etc. etc.
However a little time clock started at the end on the left hand side at
the bottom.   Oh, and I only got two colours to play with then, yellow
and pale blue.  I got down to the last one but before I could take it
out it said 'game over' grrrrrr

Yes, Bev, I got that message too, in Dutch.  I thought it might say
something like you thought as well.  Also I was down to playing with only
orange and yellow and I got down to nearly the last one and had the same
result as you.  Game over.  It's very naughty of them.  We waste all this
time playing the game and its unwinnable!  Grrr too.

It might be asking you to enter your name or initials. There are video
games out that if you get the top 5 scores or such, then you have a time
limit at the end to enter your info.

I'm so glad I haven't figured out how to play this game. Is this why
there are so few posts this morning on rpca? Here's another kind of

Bubbles made us late for lunch - or rather made lunch late for us!
I showed DH the bubbles game at about 11am and by 13:40 he was still
playing it and getting more and more annoyed by my requests to
feeeeeeed me (we take it in turns to cook and it was his turn).  He
made us a lovely lunch (toasted sandwiches) and returned to the
computer for the afternoon - playing bubbles.  He stopped when he got
up to 73000-and-a-bit.

What it is about bubbles?

So must I.  Tell me how to stop.  I can't do it on my own, it's a serious
addiction.

I'll just have another game and then I'll go to bed.

There's a "free computer game" thread on a newspaper talkboard I look
at, and this came up:

I'm sorry .... honest, I am!

I'm glad I didn't click on the link, this sounds too adictive. When I
look at this thread, I keep thinking of "Finding Nemo" my bubbles. :-)

12097 here. The best way to get points and to get "lives" (ie, when a bubble
slips below the line, its deleted rather than kills you) is to pop bubbles
that other bubbles are holding onto, so that they have to fall off.
