I thought Silver and Scouty were fairly average-sized felines, okay a
bit on the chubby side, but nothing extraordinary... The vet didn't
seem alarmed when they had their annual checkups (though as usual he
commented on how incredibly muscular and strong Scouty is!) But from a
few other posts it seems that Tessie is 'average' and Scouty and
Silver are feline Godzillas!

Tessie - 27 inches long nose to tailtip (her tail is ten inches long
by itself) and 8 pounds at her last vet check. Still small and light
enough to scoop up with one hand and carry around under your arm. Can
reach amazing heights with her leaps.

Silver - 30 inches long nose to tailtip, and 14.8 pounds at last vet
check. Has a tummy pouch, but no problems jumping for the feather toy
and doing 180 degree turns in mid-leap (she's remarkably lithe when
she wants to be!)

Scouty - not sure how long she is (it would traumatise her too much to
try and measure her!) but she's a little shorter and stockier than
Silver, weighing in at 16 pounds last vet check.  Too heavy to jump
much. Rears up on her hind legs instead, and has trouble jumping
higher than a chair. But incredibly strong and muscular. It takes
three strong men to hold her if she doesn't want to be held!

How about your cats?
Stormmee - 14 Aug 2007 01:34 GMT
no measurements but:
Tiger 15.5 pounds
TV 17.9 pounds
OEJ 12 8
Trudi 8 pounds
Chester 11.9 pounds
Stormmee 6.5 pounds.

everyone is about the right weight except TV who is just plain fat and that
is that.  All can run/jump and play normally even TV if the mood strikes,
that mood strikes about once a year or so.

Winnie ways almost five pounds, Maggie May a little over four and
Sunrise a little under. Missy weighed just under four pounds on her
last long vet visit. As it is worth ones life to handle her, she does
not get weighed frequently. They are all Himalayans. WooToo, who is
not a Himalayan, weighs twelve pounds and is scared of the little
cats.

Smudge weighs about 8 lbs and Roxy's 11 lbs. They appear to be about
the same size, but Smudge is all fluff, no substance. :) Roxy's a bit
chubby, but nobody's expressed any concern about her weight. She's
very active, gets the zoomies at least once a day, plays with Licky,
jumps up high, etc.

As for Licky, I have no idea what he weighs. I have not yet had to
bring him to a vet. He's heavier than Roxy though, and all-in-all is
just a larger cat with a bigger frame. He seems like an average-sized
male to me.

Emily, fairly average size, not so long because she has a short tail,
I'd guess about 8lbs wieght.

Muddy, largish tom cat about 15-16lbs in his prime, more like 13lb now.
I'd guess around 28-30" nose to tail.

Mojo, part panther, usually tips the scales at about 20-21 lbs, probably
36+ nose to tail, but partly because he has a long and expressive tail.

Cats are so good at stretching and compacting themselves, I've never tried
to measure them.  Lindy weighs about 6 1/2 pounds, and Nanki-Poo about 9
1/2.

All 8 of our cats are friggin' bohemuths.  I'm a little embarrased to
give their weights.  They're all very happy and healthy though, so I'm
not too disturbed.

Millie is about seven pounds after scarfing down a big meal.  Tigger is
pushing 20 pounds - he has to squeeze himself through the cat flaps.
Fleagor hangs over both ends of a three-foot shelf and can easily scratch
my stomach at a height of 44 inches off the floor.  The other twelve are
more normal: mostly 8-11 pounds.  The females range from just under seven
to about eleven pounds and the males mostly around eight to eleven.

I overestimated my cats in terms of weight before their last vet
visits. I don't remember the exact numbers, but both of them were in
the vicinity of eight pounds in weight. Nina has shortish legs, and
great big paws, and physically she rather resembles a furry meatloaf
and is developing a bit of a tummy pouch. Pick her up and she feels
very solid. I thought she'd weigh at least nine or ten pounds, so I
was quite surprised.  I frequently wonder what her daddy looked like,
as Francesca is more lithe and elegant in appearance and build.
Neither of my girls is very tall in the shoulder, and they both have
long tails. Nina's tail tends to curl up over her back.  The vet
didn't appear concerned about either cat's weight, which is fine with
me.

Mistletoe is 13.5 (OW!  OK 13 pounds).  Vet says she's fine but she
shouldn't get any heavier.  (No, that doesn't mean you get any less food!)

Molly varies between 7 1/2 pounds in summer and 8 1/2 in the winter.

Cleo is my biggest at 5.5kg (12lb). She's a big cat anyway, but is
effectively clinically obese and needs to be on a diet. HRFL Tiger is
absolutely spot on at 4.4kg (9.6lb) and Lily is on the *chunkier* side
at 5.2kg (11.5lb) and needs to lose a bit of weight - although
according to TED she's a hyperactive young cat who is very muscular
rather than fat.....but we still can't feel her ribs unless we really
want to, and she does eat too much. ;)

Robbie the Ginger Ninja is (3.75kg) 8.5lb which for him is a bit
tubby. He has a tummy, LOL! And Pandora - well, if I could catch her,
I would weigh her, but all I can tell is that she has lost weight
because she is eating less and exercising more and now has a
waistline!

Cara, is on a diet. She needs to lose 1.5kg to get to her idea collie
weight.

I'm not sure how long Persia is although when she does a full stretch she
seems terribly long!  But, make no bones about it, she's not fluffy, she's
fat.  And she doesn't get more than 1/2 cup of food a day!  I feel like I'm
starving her and she's still a big fat cat.  But adorably pretty ;)

Archer is 23 inches nose to tail tip and is 4.0 pounds at 3 months.
Ozzy is 24 inches nose to tail tip and is 4.25 pounds at 3 months.
Jessie is 26 inches nose to tail tip and is 7.75 pounds at 8 years old.
Demi is 29 inches nose to tail tip and is 7.75 pounds at 9 years old.
Sammy is... wait for it... 36 inches from nose to tail tip and is 18.5
pounds at 3 years old!!!

Dante looks small, but he is a very solid twelve pounds.  He feels like a

I don't have my scale at home right now, my BF borrowed it coz he's
visiting his home country and wanted to check how much he can carry
along luggagewise...
But so far Laku and Nico have been around 6-7 kg (abt 13-15,5 lbs),
haven't weighed them for a while tho... If this thread is still alive
when I get the scale back and if they weigh a great deal more than that,
I'll post a correction.
Measuring them isn't really an option, they won't stay still for so
long... Not that they'd fight me, but they'd turn around, trying to get
at the measuring tape, looking at it, tasting it, wondering what I'm up
to...  :)

Boyfriend weighed around 7-8 lbs when I weighed him last year.  He doesn't
really like to be picked up so I won't do it again unless it's essential.
He is more or less the average size for a British DSH that is allowed
outside.
KFC weighed 4lbs last time.  She is very tiny in build though.
It's considered sufficiently unusual for an ordinary British moggie to get
to 14lbs that it was on the TV news just a few days ago when one did!

ISTR that the headline was "Cat weighs ONE STONE!"
A stone is 14lb in our imperial measures.  Most of us Brits born before the
mid 70's cling to imperial measures.  No way will I ever measure anything in
centimetres mostly because I can't visualise how big it is an hour after
I've measured it.
I know exactly how high a 6 foot fence is,  I can visualise what anything
looks like in length from 1/4 inch to a foot up to whatever in feet and I
still weigh out my cooking ingredients in pounds and ounces.  I don't do
kilos either.
I refuse to do metric. I am British and we have a perfectly understandable
method of weights and measures that we have used since I dunno when.
I like to go into a butcher's shop and say "I would like a pound of mince."
and get a pound, which suits all the recipe books I have.

Baha - 14 Aug 2007 20:00 GMT
Last weekend we took our Brandy for her checkup. I could hear the beginnings
of "Holy sh--" from our vet: Brandy, known as the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee,
has grown into a little moose. She's a whisker shy of 16 pounds! And Stosh is
well over that; he's a huge, muscular hunk of cat.

The Ladies have in common a physical daintiness; but Roxie, though only six
pounds, is pure muscle covered in fur and has been known to beat the snot out
of me when corralling her to do her teeth, or get her into the carrier to go
to the vet. Sabrina and the Odessa-doll are little too; Odessa especially has
delicate, doll-like features and tiny paws.

Brandy has become the living embodiment of a story familiar to anyone who has
ever read Beverly Cleary: she's become a Q. From the back, she looks like a
capital Q, round with a tail curling out. (In _Ramona the Pest_, when Ramona
began kindergarten she was taught to make a Q with that tail "just like a
little cat." The imaginative child embellished it further by adding a pair of
ears and whiskers poking off the sides of the round Kitty-Q.)

Blessed be,
Baha

Spotsie is 32 inches long from nose to tip of tail (she didn't really
want to stretch out to be measured) and 9.5 lb as of her last vet
visit.

I once had a cat that could on stand his hind feet and peek over the
edge of the kitchen table to see whether there were any goodies up
there.  He was a 13 pounder as well as I can remember.

Here is a web page about a 48 inch long house cat:

http://www.verismocat.com/htmscripts/leo-guinness.htm

The average house cat is supposed to weigh six pounds (female) or
eight pounds (male).

I find that hard to believe, I've known a number of male cats who were
much bigger than 8lbs, and very very few (if any any) male cats who were
smaller. I'd have guessed at an average around 10-11lbs at least.

Yes, that seems awfully small to me.  Lindy, at 6 1/2 lbs., is the smallest
female cat I've ever had, and she has lost weight due to a thyroid problem.
I'd think eight pounds was average for a female, and eight to ten for a
male, based on my experience.

Judging by people's responses, the average weight of an adult cat is
about 9 pounds, with not many over 10... I'm still amazed that Tessie
isn't 'small' at all - she still seems tiny to us compared to our
other two monsters! (I haven't ever had cats before to compare them
to...)

I just put all the cat weights into a spreadsheet and averaged them...
it says the overall average weight of the 50 cats listed so far (I'm
afraid I couldn't count 'small' or 'large') is 10.45 pounds.

I don't know what Caliban weighs now, but when the vet weighed him in
April, he was around 6.2 kilos (13.66 lbs). He's been on a strict diet
since then, though, on the doctor's orders. I hope he's lost weight.

Last time Miranda was weighed at the vet's, she weighed 3.4 kilos (7.5
lbs). She may have gained some more muscle during the summer.

I haven't even tried to measure them - they would only wonder why
meowmie is trying to pin tape on them, and then they would play with the
measuring tape.

Dot's a medium sized, but chubby female weighing 13 lbs.  I call her

Buster's a small adolescent male, weighing 9 lbs.  I call him a "furry
