Harri has decided that Ranger's new nickname is The Weather Wimp.

Here in the midwest the temperatures have been high lately - 80's to low
90's F (27 to mid 30's C) with high humidity. We've also been seeing a
thunderstorm every day for the last week. That coupled with the fact that
I've been stuck working long hours this week has meant that the kitties
have been getting a little stir-crazy.

Last night Nancy and I didn't get home until 7:00 PM. When we opened up
the back door the kitties headed outside pretty promptly, but they didn't
stay long - another thunderboomer moved through around 7:30. I was sitting
in the living room reading and enjoying watching the kitty antics. Harri
and Ranger in particular were pretty active. I'd see Ranger chasing Harri
from the front room to stairs, then a couple minutes later Harri chasing
Ranger from the stairs to the front room. Back and forth, back and forth.

After a few minutes of this I went into the kitchen to get another glass
of iced tea. Since chasing fur-siblings is a lot more fun when a human is
watching, H and R shifted their chase route to go through the kitchen. I
saw Harri dash from the dining room into the kitchen with Ranger close on
her heels. Since the door to the outside was open, Harri headed out into
the backyard - where it was raining. I followed them to watch (from the
dry comfort of the mud room). Harri dashed to her favorite lawn chair
under the maple tree. Ranger stopped a couple of feet from her. He looked
a little bit puzzled, then looked around carefully. He then let out a
yowl, turned tail and ran back into the house. When he got back into the
kitchen (with his tail fluffed up - a rare occurence) he sat down and
started grooming the rain out of his fur. This was probably the first time
I've sever seen Ranger go fluffytail.

When I looked back outside Harri was still under her lawnchair staying
relatively dry, with a look on her face that said clearly "Ranger, you
wimp! It's only a little rain."

Harri came back in a few minutes later, her coat pretty well soaked. She
wasn't the least bit bothered by it. She and Amelia both seem not to mind
getting rained on. Ranger stayed inside until the rain had stopped.

<snip great story>

Here, it's Caliban who is the weather wimp. Miranda is happy to be
outside in any weather, hot summer or freezing winter weather, but
Caliban is more wimpy about both. She doesn't even mind rain that much.
The only weather she doesn't like is windy, and Caliban likes the wind -
not being in a windy place, but sheltered from it and watching things
blowing in the wind.

Signature

Marina, Miranda and Caliban. In loving memory of Frank and Nikki.
