What in the world is happening to Tin?viel? She has always been the kind of
shy cat: "Yes, I like you very much, but don't you ever try to touch me
before I have laid down on top of the scratching post. No way!" But that was
before we moved out of the flat we used to live in.
Unemployed as I am, I couldn't afford to pay a NOK 7000 (USD 1075) rent per
month when my total benefits were NOK 10500 (USD 1612) ... So I had to move
in with a friend of mine (no, not a girlfriend) and use her bedroom as my
living room. She loves cats, and was very happy that I brought Tin?viel and
Teti (her son) into the house.
After a very short time, remarkable things happened to Tin?viel. Suddenly,
she became much more friendly towards both me and my friend, as if she said
that this place was where she had ever wanted to be. It's so nice seeing how
she has bloomed the past few months!
Of course, I can see some reasons for it. The cats are never alone now, and
I think they sense that I have become a happier person now than I was
before. I got rid of one of my worst worries when we moved out, and I think
they know that. On the other hand, Teti isn't behaving that good. Being a
non-neutered male, two years old, it is important to him to mark his
territory in a proper way. Joanna (my friend) doesn't seem to fit into his
world until he has told her that she is below him in the hierarchy. How does
he do this? He urinates in her bed! He has done this three times now, and
Joanna is about to lose her patience with him. Today I started the cure: I
am going to give him one Perlutex pill (pill for preventing female cats
getting in heat) per day for one week, and then one pill a week. My ex says
this will help. It worked for Teti's father, so I beleive her.
Unemployment is a pain, but the last few days I have received signals that a
job may be on it's way. It's so serious that I have almost been called in
for a job interview even before I have sent the job application. I'm nervous
as hell!
I never thought I was going to ask for this, but... Please send some purrs
my way for me to get that job...

Hans,
Rosie and Cinder have their little motors going and are adding a few
meatloaf meditations for you to find the job of your dreams. I will do my
part with a prayer, if you don't mind.

Good luck with the job, Hans! Panther Francesca and NIna all have their
engines strarted on your behalf. Maybe this is out of line of me, but....
when you can afford it, please neuter Teti. I'm guessing that both you and
he will be happier for it. It's a kind and responsible thing for a cat
parent to do. An unneutered male cat's pee is VERY strong, and the instinct
to mark their territory can't be trained out of them. Joanna is being VERY
patient. If a cat peed in my bed, I would be very upset. I speak from
experience, as the late, lamented Isadora did that a few times to me. NOT
fun.
GOod luck!

I also suggest that neutering Teti would help. I, too, have had cat pee in
my bed and it wasn't from a neutered male and that was bad enough! I'd also
suggest checking into getting some Feliway spray or diffusers if you can get
this in your area -- it's a pheremone spray that helps cut down on marking
behavior. You can also find this online at www.valleyvet.com. among other
places. In the meantime, try and use an enzymatic cleaner on the places
where Teti has peed. Other things I did when I had my cat peeing issues
were to put aluminum foil on the bed and rubberized waterproof crib sheets
underneath the regular sheets to protect the mattress.
Hope this helps and purrs for the job,
Christine

Oh good luck! Everyone should have the job they want or at least a job not
to worry about kitty food and stuff.

That's very nice, and fortunate for you and the cats.

Oh my! Any particular reason why his isn't neutered other than financial
ones?

I'm hoping for a job as well. I have very good feelings about it. I've
learned (in my middle age) not to let job applications or interviews
intimidate me. Even 11 years ago I was older than the people doing the
interviewing and I simply refuse to let them make me all nervous these days.

Yes, he is still going to be the father of two more litters. After that, it
is over, and I will neuter him.

I know just what you're going through!! I really hope this job pans out
(that you're successful in getting it).
I never knew that birth control pills for female cats could stop a male
cat from marking territory with urine. I wonder how that works? Anyway,
more purrs for getting that situation under control. You don't want to lose
your housing situation (or your friendship with Joanna)!

I sent the job application on Sunday evening, Monday morning at 11:30, I got
a phone call from the company asking if I could get them a name of a
reference person from my former job. I gave them that, and this afternoon I
was asked if I could come for a job interview on Thursday and have lunch
with them...
Whew, things are turning fast, these days!
I'm still very nervous, but that's the way it should be, I guess. Just hope
I won't make a fool of myself at the interview. Anyway, one step further
towards a job!
Thank you, all, for the purrs, and I will keep you informed! Next update on
Thursday night, I think..

Purrs and prayers continue for your interview. Just be your usual charming
self (grin.)
Seriously, it sounds very hopeful.
I wouldn't think they would invest in a lunch unless they were very
interested, unless that's the normal thing in Norway.
Let us be nervous for you and just concentrate on the interview.
