I'm wondering whether every cat we write about has a different degree of
sandpaper abrasion when they wash us.
For instance, I can stand for Chessie to lick my arm but Nikki's small pink
tongue could lick flesh from the bone.  I let Nikki lick the underside of my
hand so her feelings won't be hurt....Lorna & the Chesniks

I know two cats who lick, and their tongues do have different abrasion
levels [Felix is much more abrasive than Kitty].

All three are different. Mr. Clark, the most devoted licker, has the
roughest tongue, which can hurt on sensitive skin. We seem to
appreciate, mutually, that I've grown a beard.

Rhonda is in the middle. At the adoption place, when the cage containing
her and her sister, Rhonda surged out, jumped into my arms, and
industriously started licking my nose. Her sister ignored me. THAT
decided who was coming home. Her tongue has gotten a bit rougher, but
it's very fine sandpaper.

Ding has a very soft tongue -- really no roughness at all.

Probably following Mr. Clark's example, they all lick one another as
well as available humans. I'm lucky that the three (adult and two
kittens) adopted together have always been affectionate toward each
other.

I can't really say, Baggy is the only cat that has ever washed me, he
has a very rough tounge. It's nice when it stops. :-)
