The name won't mean much to people outside the UK, he died today aged 66
from prostrate cancer. Another charecter who will be missed by many.

I'm really sorry to hear that. He was a truly great character, and his
TV series(es) on industrial architecture & traction engines etc. have
given me great pleasure over the years. He'll be much missed.

Oh! How extremely sad. He was an absolute fount of knowledge on engineering
through the ages. I found his TV appearances enthralling. One-of-a-kind is
gone.

I'm very sorry to hear this.  He was indeed a one off.  For those in other
