I've noticed that when Vino gets impatient, he makes the strangest
noise. It's kind of a nasal exhalation combined with a huff. He often
does it when he gets on my chest and meatloafs while I watch TV but I
don't pet him.
And just now, I was eating a bowl of split pea soup, which he loves. He
got up on the desk and tried to edge his way closer and closer to the
bowl. But I kept pushing him away. So finally he sat on the other side
of me, facing the bowl and huffed like that! It was totally obvious
that he was showing his displeasure. But he waited until I was done and
so I gave him the bowl to lick out. No more huffs after that.

Persia huffs too. She always does when I'm eating something she knows she
can't have. It's a sort of combination between a huff and a snort. You'd
think she is a cow or a horse or something.

It's actually a kitty-cat swear word, similar to FCUK. Try doing it
back to him. The look of sheer disgust you'll get is priceless! HRFL
does it when he's miffed about something.

Heh...all three of mine do that from time to time... Helen's right,
it's a cat swear. Katie does it when I've been trying to comb her,
or pick her up, or make her do *anything* that wasn't already in her
plans to do anyway. Hazard does it when I'm putting him down after a
petting session. Tripper's the one that's most likely to do it when
I've denied him a sample of whatever I'm eating at the moment.
And the look at me funny when I do it back, but sometimes it gets
Katie to cooperate. If I huff when she stalls, sometimes she'll give
me a look, and then waddle her furry little butt out of the way.
The look is amusing...sort of a disbelief coupled with "hey, that's
*our* phrase"...
Eh...they keep me guessing, I think once in a while I'm allowed to
make them guess....;)
