Sammy's diarrhea is worse today - I watched her using the litterbox and it's
liquid.  Her butt is sore (just like a human with diarrhea) and her licking
it is making it more sore.  I talked with the vet and she said for today to
use Vaseline on her but just like you would a baby with diaper rash.  We
held her down so I could wipe her off with a wet cloth (thank goodness she
got shaved at the vet's last night!) and applied the Vaseline.  And she
promptly started licking *that* off!  I know Vaseline is used for hair
balls, now I'm worried that it will make her diarrhea worse.

We have another appointment at the vet's tomorrow afternoon to do further
testing and medicine for the diarrhea and upset tummy  (to treat the
symptoms since they haven't found a physical problem that we know of yet).

[Let's see that's 3 cats initial visit and shots (Tayla, Archer and Ozzy), 3
cats booster shots (Demi, Jessie and Sammy), 3 cats (2 boosters for the
boys, 1 check-up for Tayla), 1 sick cat yesterday (Sammy) and 1 sick cat
tomorrow (Sammy) - that's a total of 14 vet visits' cost in less than 5
weeks!!!!  Like Tweed told her vet, should I just deposit my paycheck into
his account from now on?!]

Purrs for Sammy - and for your paycheck.

Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never
forgotten this.

Purrs on the way, Lori.

Awwwwwww, sorry to hear that Sammy has a stomach bug.

Purrs for her and for you and your wallet.

>From a tech standpoint, you would be one of those cases where it's a
good thing and a bad thing to see you multiple times.  it's great to
see you and say hello and see the animals, but at the same time you
feel bad that the animal is STILL coming to see you.

Certain animals I'll say, 'I don't want to see you again, but I mean
that in a good way.'

Purrs for the Samazon to sail through this - I think & hope it's just a case
of things getting briefly worse before they get better.

Still purring for Sammy. I don't think the Vaseline will do any harm.

Lori,

I realize I just recently came into knowing about Sammy's situation,
but has the vet done blood work on her?

My Louie stresses out easily also.  When we were in the process of
moving from Houston to Nevada a year and a half ago, he stopped eating
and started to loose weight.  (He had the runs also)   I tried
everything to get him to eat, baby food, canned food, different dry
food, human food, all to no avail.  He had lost almost 2 pounds.  We
took him to an all cat vet up there and he spent 8 days and 7 nights
at the clinic.  His blood work showed a couple of slightly elevated
levels and a minor liver inflamation.  Dr. Thompson sent him home with
4 different kinds of medication:  Clavamox, Prednisolone, Denamarin,
and Cyproheptadine (an appetite stimulant).  A few days into the
treatment, Louie snapped right out of it and started putting on major
pounds again.  Then about a week ago, after arriving back in Houston,
Louie started showing the same signs again.  The runs, not eating,
loosing weight.  We ran him over to our old vet here and luckily I had
saved all of his old medicine bottles from Nevada to take with me.
After getting back the results from his blood work, the vet called me
and had me come in to pick up his meds.  Turns out they were the exact
same four as Louie had been prescribed by the all cat vet up in
Nevada.  He's only been on the meds for three days, but is already
showing signs of improvement.

If Sammy doesn't start showing some signs of improvement soon, (I know
it would be a commute, but.....) I know of an all cat vet on Memorial
Drive you might want to check out.

Thanks Bonbon - I'll keep that in mind.  She's seeing the vet again tonight
at 6, so I'm going to print out this note to bring with me and ask her about
it.

Whan Melody was getting chemo shots (palliative care for lymphoma),
she'd get diarrhea the day after the shot.

I asked the vet if I could give her acidophilus and if so, how much. I
felt the poor cat had enough meds in her wee system as it was, so I
wanted to try something natural.

The vet agreed, so I started adding acidophilus to her food. I forget
how much I gave her, but it did help. Maybe you could try that for
Sammy.
