The weather's lousy out tonight. It's rained heavily all day, and now
it's extra windy. The balcony doors are rattling from the force of
the wind, and there's towels under the windows to soak up the water
that leaks in around the frames.
And of course, Smokey is clinging to me, for fear that Outside might
come in and get him.
(I still have scars from Hurricane Juan last year, where Smokey's
clipped claws still dug furrows into my legs)
That's one feral who has no intentions of going back out into weather
like that.
The kittens are utterly oblivious, having been inside since they were
3 weeks old, and Nocturne is curled atop the back of the brown plush
chair, looking irritated every time the doors rattle.

Stink hates rain and thunder. He does the "creepin Jesus" thing down
to the basement. When I go down to check on him, *he jumps into my
arms. I hate to think of him scared down there all by himself, so I
try to bring him back upstairs-- but he always goes back down. So I
go back down after him; repeat from *. ;)

My family's old cat, Thompson (1970-1987), was an excellent barometer.
Half an hour before a thunder storm, she would go creeping about on her
belly, and slink down into the basement.

It was a shame about the young boy killed by the falling tree on the school
field trip.

SOT (Somewhat OT), but our Smokey had her own scare yesterday. I was hanging
some ducts and had them supported temporarily so I could tape the joins. But
the cables broke and the ducts came crashing down. I knew Smoke was in the
general vicinity, but I did not see what happened to her when the sh*t hit
the fan. I found her under the couch mewling like a kitten and she would not
come out. Fortunately Cali came along to see what was wrong and coaxed her
out, so she could look her over. Cali even gave her a few licks for good
measure. She seemed to be limping right after it happened, but there was no
evidence of any injury once she let me pick her up.
Fortunately she seemed fine today, although a little subdued. I think she
was stressed more than anything else. I would have felt terrible (stupid) if
she had been hurt.

That description matches my two perfectly. LB, who was a stray (though
she did have a home at some point, since she came with a flea collar)
hates weather - one raindrop and she runs for cover. Sammy was born
inside and has never been outside unless supervised. Snow is rare here
in SW Oklahoma, and it was hilarious watching her play in her first
snow. Sam had a great time running around chasing falling snowflakes
until she figured out her feet were getting cold. When she finally
came in she spent the rest of the day watching the birds come to the
feeder. LB watched her antics from the bedroom window, no way was she
going to go out.
