Another b*****d cat trick

When I went into the kitchen this morning to fix breakfast, I turned on
the cold water and got just a dribble.  My first thought, of course, was
that the pump had failed or tripped its breaker, so I went back into the
bedroom to put on some shoes, but realized that I really should check to
make sure it was a general rather than specific failure.  The water in the
bathroom worked perfectly.  Back in the kitchen, I found that the hot
water worked - it was just the cold that didn't.  After considering the
possible failures (plugged up pipe, broken faucet, etc.) I decided to
check the simplest, but least likely: the water being turned off at the
shutoff valve under the sink.  When I opened the cabinet, it was instantly
clear what had happened: a cat had knocked over the (heavy - it's nearly
full) bucket of dishwasher detergent which had fallen against the
unusually easy to turn valve handle which in turn had turned the water
almost completely off.  I guess I'm going to have to go back to
cat-proofing the cabinet doors.

Needless to say, that made me late for work, but it was OK - I was still
the first one there (highly unusual).

Wow, your cat triggered a Rube Goldberg device under your sink!

Glad you solved the problem.

Did you check to be sure your cat hasn't developed thumbs?  MLB

I have no idea which cat or cats it was.  Of the fifteen cats, at least a
third are known to open lower cabinets and go inside - one opens *upper*
cabinets, jumps inside and pushes anything in her way out.

Thank goodness it was an easy fix.  Plumbing problems really suck, and
upon returning to our house in Houston 3 weeks ago, we discovered all
of the hot and cold water work in the bathroom of the master bedroom,
except for the cold water to the tub.  Unfortunately I don't see an
easy fix for the problem.  Any suggestions before we call the plumber?

It would be easy for me to take the faucet apart to see if it was plugged
up with a misplaced washer or O-ring.  If it isn't a shutoff valve that
got nudged or a faucet in need of an overhaul, it's probably something
like a clogged or broken pipe.

I appreciate the input.  We'll give it a try.
