Bandit (UK) - results of visit to specialist

Assessment of his eye infection is potentially good news insofar as it's
operable (various tear ducts & lachrymal passages need surgical intervention
and his lower eyelids need trimming) and with a good chance for total
success. So I could get a fully healthy boy back again soon :)

Operation booked for the 15th August.

The surgery is half an hour's drive away and as usual Bandit made it very
clear how much he hates being caged up in a car by maintaining an eldritch
screeching (stuck pigs could learn much from him) for the entire journey,
both ways. Good as gold at TEDs, though, and I even got him purring on the
exam table. He was encouraged to explore the consulting room so TED could
assess his eyesight and he (Bandit, not TED) did some housekeeping, picking
up a small wodge of fur from a previous patient that was under the desk.

So 3 weeks to recover before the big event. I'll be asking you all to purr
for a good outcome at the time. In the meantime we can all purr positively
for others in need.

I'm so glad it's something that can be corrected and give him back his
comfort and eyesight.  Purrs will keep coming for him non-stop until he is
completely recovered.  Please keep us updated on his progress.

How did all this happen?  Some sort of congenital malformation due to
inbreeding?

Not inbreeding, Bandit's a Bitsa DSH, but he had an eye injury in early
kittenhood and a period of neglect in his early life before rescue by Cats'
Protection that initiated the problem (at best guess). But it's also a pity
that specialist surgery wasn't recommended some time ago by one of the
several TEDs who've seen him - until his current regular TED they all seemed
to feel they could do all the necessary by themselves & if they couldn't do
it it wasn't necessary, IYSWIM.

Sounds like those previous TEDs missed their vocation.  As GPs in Glasgow
they could get to do that with people.

Poor Bandit.  That's going to hurt before it gets better.

Do you have any Feliway spray?  It often helps to calm cats if you spray
some in the carrier about 20 minutes before you put the cat in the carrier.
Also, some cats do better if a lightweight towel is draped over the carrier.
It prevents the cat from seeing movement, which can be agitating.

I'm very happy to learn that Bandit can have this surgery.  Eyes are *so*
important, for us and for our masters.

We will continue to keep Bandit in our purrs.  I won't be in town on
August 15th so I won't be able to send support messages to you, but I
will be thinking of you on that day.

Purrs for a happy outcome from Rhea, Amy and myself. It's their second
birthday today so there being made such a fuss of that they're purring
up a storm anyway.
Mine hate traveling in the car too, they suddenly remember they're
Siamese and are supposed to be noisy!
