New Jersey is a small state but it has 353 shelters listing with Petfinder.
Amazing... How come so many NJ folks abandon their pets?

New Jersey the most built-up state in the Union. I notice this
shelter is in Warren, NJ - I went to high school there. Which is kind
of unfortunate, as you grow up thinking that everyone's father is
either a CEO or has an earldom, and that the best place to hang out
after school is a country club. I'm glad I moved away. :)

In terms of square mileage NJ is a smaller State (8,722 square miles),
but in terms of people it ranks towards the top of the list. Making
for a lot more people per square mile.
Latest stats I found were US Census Bureau as of 2006:
Population: 8,724,560, making it number 11out of the 50 states +
Puerto Rico.
