This is really weird. Remember I posted the link to the kitten photos?
I set up an account with
Webshots just for that, and this is the only place I posted the link.
I didn't even e-mail it to anyone else yet.
The counter on the page says "1,041 Views". Does that mean there are a
thousand people who read but
don't post? Or is the counter screwy?
That's amazing!

Well, there are people that browse through Webshots looking at pictures,
searching for keywords (kitten, cat, etc.). I know if I do a search for
"weeble", I get my own pictures of my black kitty, Sir Weeble Wobblybottom,
among some others (and yes, someone will have posted a picture of the toy
he's named after).

Many people will look at pictures several times, I often go back and look at
pictures I've seen before.

Same thing with youtube. I go back and watch videos multiple times. I've
never understood the point of counters for this very reason.

People often look at pictures several times. Also, I sometimes
inadvertently close out of programs with pictures when I really intended to
close that picture and look at another one. Then I have to go back into the
site to view other pictures.
Some counters recognize ISP addresses and only count it once but others
count every time the file is opened. It sounds like yours is one that
counts every "hit."

Well, there are more than 41 people who post, but it is unlikely that
everyone who posts also viewed the photos. However, it is likely that
some of the people who post also viewed the photos more than once.
That still leaves a lot of lurkers.

We do have a ton of lurkers. I've had similar results posting various links
to sites that I control (or used to control).

Maybe someone may be spreading the URL? ;)
Well I admit I looked at the pics and this is my first post here.

Welcome! And thank you for looking at my pics :-)
We'd love to hear about your kitties sometime, too.

There are probably a lot of lurkers here who may have clicked your
link, but also there are posters here who will pass a good link to
friends and family. Additionally there are people who like to search
Webshots for things of interest and web surfers can easily search the
web for images and get links to specific pictures on Webshots.
The counter isn't screwy, there have been that many views

I'm not too sure how their counter works, if I look at six pictures on a
site is that one view or six?
But I had a album up for several years with cat pictures. It got several
thousand hits a week in its prime and still nearly 100 when I took it down.
Between those who share and those who look at pictures listed as new and
cats, 1,041 isn't that unusual. That one spotty belly picture was "to die
for"

It means that everybody loves a bitty! (btw, every time somebody loads
a new photo it counts as one view...)
