John's been up in Rochester clearing out the (mostly junk) from his mom's
house.  He had friends helping him.  Dave yelled, "John, look what I found!"
Oh good lord, it's a painting he did in 1968 of a cat!  I have a photo of
him standing next to it, see below:

He thought it was lost, burned up at his fathers house.  Turns out his mom
had it stuffed in the attic all these years.  He wants me to have it :)

BTW, how many people here think John looks like Phil Collins in that photo?

Who's "Phil Collins"?  ( Incidentally, I like the painting -
if he was as young as he looks in the photo, and was
painting that well then, he deserves to be successful!)

Thanks... John was about 23 when he painted that and hadn't been to the art
academy yet.  But he'd been painting since he was a 5 year old child.  It
was a given :)  I have a photo of him with an eisle and paints his parents
gave him for Christmas in 1951.

Phil Collins was the drummer for a rock band called 'Genesis' in the 1970's.
Peter Gabriel left the band to pursue a solo career.  Phil stepped in.

Yeah, he did.  And he has aged well too.  I like picture #14 in the album as
well.

Oh, that was the one done by his father, Robert Willer, in a 'Vargas' style.
Similar to what was seen in Playboy magazines back in the day.  He was
mostly a photographer, which is why I have so many photographs John gave me.
But you can see where John got his talent!  Unfoturnately, his father
committed suicide in 1987 :(

That's great! Very 1968-looking. :)

LOL! Especially the haircut.

He's aged right along with Phil to only having 'fringe'.  And he likes to
play drums and mess around with keyboards.  Bet Phil doesn't paint, though
:)

I watched Genesis at the Live Earh gig last night and thought the
funny thing was that Phil Collins is starting to sound like Fish (I am
not insane those who know what I am talking about will get this)

John didn't realize Genesis didn't start out with Phil Collins.  Phil
stepped in when Peter Gabriel stepped out.  They sound virtually the same.
Ever hear 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'?  That's Peter Gabriel, not Phil
Collins.  Great album.

Looking at your picture, you remind me a lot of Jan Hooks who was a
Saturday Night Live regular in the late 80's. She's been in a number
of movies as well as TV shows such as Designing Women and Third Rock
from the Sun. So we have Phil Collins and Jan Hooks :)

Oh dear... I'm much more blonde than that LOL  But hey, if Lorne Michaels
wants to offer me a job I'll take it <G>  We're both a bit old for SNL,
though.

Love this song:

Jan's my cousin and I remember times when she was more blonde than she
is now but you have similar facial features. Julie

Gotta tell you, we went to a restaurant for breakfast one morning and this
waitress came to our table and asked, "Would you like some tea?"  I blinked.
Um, no, thank you, coffee.  I asked John, why did she offer me tea?  He
said, "You look Scottish."

John's "step nephew" is Peter Saarsgaard (a guest host on SNL last year ).
I thank you for the compliment but I can't see any resemblence. :)

Oh, I meant to say too old be be *on* SNL these days.  We used to watch it
in the 70's... the days of Gilda Radner and John Belushi, Ackroyd and Chevy
Chase and Garret Morris.  Back when it was actually funny!

I agree, those were the best shows and we never missed an episode.
Then when my cousin was cast we watched again and enjoyed some of it -
not all of it, but having a relative on there makes it more
interesting. Jan started with a Ted Turner show called "The Bill Tush
Show" which was very cute. I'm not sure it showed much out of the
Atlanta area, but we always watched it as well and enjoyed it.  I wish
she'd had a longer run on Designing Women because she was born for
that role!

Both kitty paintings are amazing. And John does look just like Phil
Collins in that photo.
Best wishes,
Polonca and Soncek
